Afternoon, ok i goign to try and explain ym issue and hope someone can help

My car when accelerating makes a shuddering noise and doesnt accelerate
well at all. This does this throughout the whole rev range, but less
noticeable when at higher rev, this seems to happen intermittently.
sometimes its absolutely fine. also to note if i tap the
accelerator pedal lightly it accelerates fine, its only when i push the
pedal around 25%+

On another mote when i start the car from cold its stays at around
1500revs and doesnt drip to around 800 at idle for a few mins after
driving off

would appreciate the help on this one.

also to note i have done the debutterfly mod on this and put a screw in the end of the hose.

As you mentioned not accellerating when pedal pushed more than 25% would think clutch first

Unlikely to be the clutch. Assuming a Gen 7 you should be considering the MAF sensor and throttle body. How to clean both are described on Celica Talk and Celica Hobby.

Clutch problems are generally lack of acceleration against a disproportionate increase in revs. Judder whilst in drive isn't normally a feature.

Carburettor cleaner in the idle control valve opening on the throttle body housing should help. New air filter?

does the rough idle conside with the hesitating on acceletating and the sputtering sound, every now and then the acceleration will smooth out and accelerate fine, then seconds later it goes back to shuddering/sputtering

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok when was it last serviced?

Up to what point did it start playing up & was anything done to the car around that point - parts fitted, petrol from a different garage etc?
