Engine Start Problems

Dear members,

I have just bought an Avensis 2.0 2011 plate.

The car will not start unless the clutch is press down.

Is this normal?

Yes - it is a safety feature to prevent the car lurching forwards/backwards if the car had been parked in gear, and not been put into neutral when the engine is started. Both the Auris I've had have had this system.
