Brakes

I have owned my 2002 Avensis for 13 years but now it has started to make a short ‘snorting’ type of noise when I apply the brakes.  It generally only happens soon after start up, perhaps on the first or second application of the brakes.  This sometimes causes a slight vibration on the brake pedal.  Anyone any ideas please.  The brakes work fine and are in good condition. Mileage is 104k miles

Sounds like the discs and pads need cleaning!

Sometimes the brake dust builds up. This may cure the problem or the surfaces may need a light roughing up. Try brake cleaner first.

I was in a store yesterday and saw Car Plan 500ml brake cleaner at £1 a tin so thought, bargain, i'll have one of those. Also got aerosol tin of copper grease at £1 plus some other bits and pieces. Discover when i got home they charged me £3.59 for the brake cleaner - NOT a happy bunny. Waste another few quids worth of petrol to go down and gut them out.
