Wiring in a dashcam

Hi All,

I have bought a Dashcam that I would like to hardwire into my 07 Avensis D4-D TR, are there any details on how to do this, both from connecting it electrically and running the power cable hidden away?

Thanks,

Neil.

Sorry for the late reply, no, no hardwire kit. I was hoping I could cut the cig lighter plug off and wire it into the fusebox somewhere, and if there are any hints on hiding the wiring.

Best thing to do is get a hard wire kit out off Halfords (£20) well worth it just plug straight into fuse and that's it no cutting wires r messing about and then just run wires up from passengers side fuse box and slightly pull out A pillar and rich wire along it and do the same with headcloth along windscreen. Otherwise look for piggyback fuse connectors on eBay only £3-4 then you could use existing wire for cigarette lighter hopes this helps

Springy, no, no, no, you will burn the camera out. The cigarette lead plug they normally come with have a resistor in the plug reducing the voltage down to 5 volts as the camera's run on 5 volts. Don't go to the fuse box or similar because of course it will be at 12 volts and you will blow your camera up. Mike.

Good point, I didn't realise the had a converter in them, Halfords hardwire kit it is then, I might as well buy another cam from them (Nextbase) and get them to fit it, sell my other cam on.

Hi Springy, Cmgstone is totally right, just buy a hard wired kit, it has the resister in it. You can use the camera you have bought but use the correct fitting kit part. If you are electrically minded you can take the cigarette plug apart, solder on a wire past the resistor part and use the fitted plug already supplied and wire it in behind the cigarette socket, the feed wires,  on the centre column/dashboard but buying the hard wired kit is much easier........... you don't need to sell the cam you have bought unless you have damaged it already. Hi Springy, myself I am quite good at electrics but I still got a shop to fit mine as it as the messing about isn't worth it and by the way Halfords were very good and competitive with their cost of camera's and small fitting charge. Mike.

If you buy the hard wire kit from Halfords you do not have to cut or solder any wires it's as simple as changing a fuse just pull out the fuse from the fuse box push in hard wire connector and replace fuse in the back of it littery takes 30 seconds and to fit the wire to the windscreen  is simple I done mine in my auris in 20 minutes plus the guys in Halfords probably mite not have fitted one in that make of car and would only be grouping their way in the dark aswell so save a few quid and fit it yourself (Sorry Halfords !!!)

Hi Springy, again cgmstone is completely right, as the only reason I didn't fit my own was because I am registered disabled and had just had major surgery at the time and in my case I got a specialist shop to do the work and they fit these camera's all the time and I knew they used trim removal tools when needed, it all depends how handy and confident you are. You could always buy the part and have a go yourself and if you can't get your head around fitting it then just book the car in and have it fitted later on. Also when buying the part you could ask how much they would charge to fit it if you go for the last option. Mike.

Ah that's good as you can order any ones because most come in silver !! I only went with these ones cos my car is deep titanium and I ordered ones which was very similar in colour looking at pictures but when they arrived they were light grey which was nothing like it so I am just waiting on paint coming which is exact match to paint code of my car then I'm going to paint them b4 I install them !!
