Is it safe to do a long motorway journey with the heat shield rattling?

Why would you want to.?..it would be so irritating..and generally such a simple fix.

And having asked the question, I think you know the answer.

1.  If there is doubt, there is no doubt.

2.  I have learnt from experience that things mechanical rarely fix themselves.

It will depend which one is loose and how loose it is., what could possibly go wrong., very simple there is a stream of air under the car while on higher speeds this air can and will break the shield and will make it flying behind your car, happened to me already at 50mph, thanks there were no cars behind. Once you have no heat shield and driving on motorways for some time then stop in traffic for example extra heat from exhaust will touch car undercarriage and there is a small risk of catching fire. If it’s just to go to a garage for fixing it then it’s ok , but if you want to drive the car from midlands to sea side at west better fix it before you go. 👍
