Jap Import Assistance

Hi all !

I am new to TOC and also to owning a Toyota !!

Just puchased a 1994 Celica 2.0 ST202 Jap Import, and wondered if you could give me some advice to help me to get it registered here.

1. I see that most imports have a fog light attached to the rear bumper but it seems on UK cars the fog light is incorporated within the rear lens. Do you know I take out the panel of the car if its possible to wire in a bulb into the rear lens and whether the bulb holder etc and present on a Jap car?

2. On a UK car, where is the fog light switch? Is it on the mulit-function on the steering column or is a seperate switch on the dash and if so where is it mounted? (I was thinking that if its the latter I can buy a switch from Toyota).

3. I have a chuffing noise when I release the clutch pedal and notice that the fliud is down to the minimum level. Does this sound like the clutch master cylinder needs renewing?

4. Anyone have any recommendations for where to buy parts for imported cars in the UK?

5. My car is without alloys and would like to get a set without increasing the overdraft !! Anyone know of any good breakers for Toyota parts like this? (I am near to London so although travelling isn't a problem, it helps if its a place close to me so as I don't have to spend a fortune in petrol going there !)

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.

Mark.

Hi Mark.....welcome to TOC.

Can't help you myself, as I know very little about Celica's, but this is a very friendly and knowledgeable crowd in here and I'm sure someone will be along soonish to help

have no problems whatsoever with my import wen getting parts and they are no more expensive than uk parts, i mean they are all jap cars at the end of the day, i also drive a import st202. ok in regards to the fluid is this the cylinder by the brake fluid? if it is then this is the clutch slave cylinder then u find there must be a leak somewhere, it may not be the clutch cylinder itself, do u find break fluid in the footwell?

for parts i would go to a nearby blueprint stockist, search on yahoo then u should find their site and find a local stockist, in case u didnt know blueprint are a company that specialise and produce jap parts at a reasonable price. in regards to the rear fog lights im sure u can re-wire them into the existing rear lights, how i dont know cause i like my little red light at the back :D

in regards to parts try toyoto celica breakers on 01579383879, they sell quality refurbished parts at a good price, they are reliable from my experience as ive bought tons of stuff from them also they provide gurantee on parts as well. they are based in cornwall but there courier rates are good, i got chraged £10 to deliver a full suspension

hope this all helps :D

Thanks all.

ST202 the info is very useful, looks like I shall be busy on the phone on Tuesday morning !!!

I have decided to pur an add-on fog light to the rear, as taking out the brake side lights at the back made it look really bad !!

However, I'm now strugling to wire this in. I cannot find the feed off the sidelight circuit so that it switches off when the lights are off. I managed to get hold of a haynes manual that only seems to cover the car for the american market and the wires are different colours. I've had the switch apart and tested all the feeds to the switch, but I can't seem to find anything switching on and off with the lights. I decided to have a guess earlier and only managed to start blowing fuses !!!

If you know, or are able to have a look at yours, I would be very very grateful.

Mark.

STOP ST202 !!!

Thanks a lot for your help, but I finished wiring in the fog light today, so don't start to pull your car apart trying to trace wires for me !!!

I decided to take the easy route and took the accessory feed directly from the side light circuit near to the bulb. Not ideal as this feed has to go through the switch on the dashboard, but I figured that the ampage in the side light circuit is fairly small and isn't too dangerous.

Just wish me luck with the MOT and hope I won't be doing any more head scratching with a failure !!!
