Mostly its by a button under the wing mirror. I guess it uses some sort of smart-card technology so it only unlocks if you have the card on you.

Otherwise maybe a solenoid like most remote boot locks.

Agreed.

I've always felt Golfs and anything else with that type of hood look like they are trying way to hard to look mean and angry.

It just seems silly to me taking a car that is inescapably "cute" and covering the headlights with part of the hood to make them look like some menacing animal eyes or something.

never fails to make me chuckle.
