Hi guys, bit a favour to ask, my grilfriends interested in buying a Celica shes seen, but its got very low miles and a low price tag, which made me think it could be an import. The problem is she would not be able to afford the insurance on an import

I know with MR2 there a couple of give aways like extra indicators, just wondered if there was for Celicas

11 digit chassis number , no rear fog lights, big number plates ie- square ones.to name but a few , speedo is in kmh but reads mph

try norwich union , they did my gt4 as a uk model due to the fact spare parts are plentyfull in the uk now.

Hi,

Fairly easy to spot an import, as has already been said, plates, fog light, my rear lights are different, Jap handbook etc.

They usually have the month number that they were born in the middle top of the windscreen.

Couple of other things - the UK ones have Exhaust Gas recirculation, which is a load of vacuum pipes and gubbins near the intake manifold. The JDM cars do not have this.

JDM cars usually have stickers in various places in Japanese.

On the GT-Four at least the JDM's have a smaller gearbox oil cooler radiator - 5 row versus the UK 10-row.

The UK's come with air conditioning - the JDM's usually have full climate control.

There is loads of subtle differences, when you next look at one try to get a picture of the engine and interior.

It will also say on the logbook if its an import as the date of registration will be way different to the date of construction.
