ok, here's what we've got here..

we're running windows 2003sbs & i've been asked to connect in some win98 client machines.

Everythings fine apart from the login script.

For some reason it wont autorun after the user logs in - i have to manually run the script from explorer.

I've installed the DSClient & enabled NTLMv2 authentication.

heres my current login script

\\servername\Clients\Setup\setup.exe /s ARCTIC1

net use * /del /y

net use g: \\servername\opera /y

net use h: \\servername\users\%username% /y

net use l: \\servername\sage /y

net use n: \\servername\bbsdb /y

net use s: \\servername\shared /y

net use u: \\servername\users /y

net use v: \\servername\client /y

the error 50 occurs when the script tries to map to the user drive H: but every other drive is fine..

Any ideas?

Why not use the Home folder relocation in active directory?

Its on the profile tab

Choose the drive letter then type the location of the users home folder

ta - i'd rather use scripts if possible - we're testing this for a new client & if it works this will be implemented over 10 sites

Add a pause in the login script and see what the error is paste it here as well  or is it just erro 50 nothing else? I take it you have looked for the error on technet?

I had this with a 98 machine a while ago with 2003 I did fix it I cant remember how at the mo it was quite simple :lol:

Error 50: You attempted an operation that cannot be performed from your

computer or that is not supported on the specified server. Make sure you are

using the correct server for the command or task that you want to perform. If

the problem persists, contact your network administrator.

this ones got me stumped - why does it bomb out when connecting to the userdrive??

You have checked users permissons to the home directory etc?

Try a user with the profile thing I mentioned mate see if that works?

yep - full access

i tried the profile way but again - it needed manually connecting via the net use /home command

even then it would only connect to the \user drive not the actual user folder.

are your users folder hidden?

\\server\uers\andy$ that would be mine? Have you tried that? in the profile tab

Or are the usernames quite long do they have a space in the or anything like that? so the shared area would be (\\server\users\andy knowlson) think 98 will have a fit if there is a space in the name :lol:

well i'm trying it on a 98se machine now.. but i went to map to the full userdrive but it instead mapped to the root user folder but i could still navigate to the actual user i was logged in as.

:censor: :censor: just found out that the %username& variable does not exist in windows 98 :censor: :censor: :ffs:
