I have a 1978 cressida 2 door with a 18R engine and W50 trans, was wondering if any other engine woyld fit in my car without much hassle 5M-GE? 7M-GE?

Any advice would be great :)

I'm no expert, but your easiest bet might be an 18RG (found in early GT Celicas). Failing that, the Cressida was available with an M engine in various markets, so fitting an M is definitely an option, but you may have to source some extra bits.

The only engine that springs to mind is a 21R, this was fitted to the last of the Cressida's in 1982,the generation 3 celica 2.0 XT/ST had the same engine (21R ), so a celica breakers would be a good place to start looking.

Not sure if the gearboxes are the same (18R to 21R ),that's something you'll have to look into .

Well only if its fits to the 18R gearbox :) , that or you can fit the 22RE 4 wheel drive gearbox and have the first 4x4 Cressida :D .

Well that´s essentially what I´m asking :) will the 22RE match up to a W50 gearbox?

if I remember correctly they came with a W56 gearbox with that engine.

wondering if the bolt pattern etc. is interchangeable. :)

just want to have someting to back this up before I start shopping for an engine ;)

...and also, does anyone know how much beating (HP) a W50 can take? ...I know the case is steel, usually a good sign :P
