Sat Nav Install

I've seen a lot of really detailed help on this forum for installing ICE components into toyotas. Has anyone installed tns sat nav in their car and has got photos or advice they want to share?

I'm looking to install a tns 200 in my Yaris, but because of the massive cost of the wiring harness, I was going to wire it all myself. Any photos of the wiring connection would be really useful.

Thanks for your help.

With all due respect but if you have to ask here how to wire it, dont even begin! I heard to much stories of people doing that, and in the end the fire department lended a hand. (think of what that would cost you!)

Even for someone with experience in (car)electronics it's a major puzzle to build a wire loom/connections.

i dont' agree with what carinanl said. the chances of a fire are extremely small. if you shorted anything out a fuse would blow period.

i've installed tns in a corolla and I have to say your pretty much stuffed without the wiring harness as the plugs are very specialised. I'm not even sure what goes to what! plus on the more modern toyotas you need a sub harness.

I might have exaggerated a bit on the fire part but it still is a risk. For instance if you reconnect/extend wires with wire of a different core width (Don't know how else do discribe this) you get thermal differences which could lead to fires.

But we agree on the complexity of the task ;) even with the schematics its hard. One wrong connection and you have the risk of blowing a fuse or worse shortcircuiting something in the HU.

Thanks for your replies. I do understand the problems if I get my wires crossed. It's just as far as I can tell there are only about 18 wires to run and Toyota charges about £10 each (harness costs £180). It's a seller's market though I guess.

I'll keep up the search for a second hand one.

Cheers
