Lost Car Keys!

Greetings everyone,

Right, just bought my new yaris and have been bombing it around (safely!)

Only one catch, the previous owner lost both remote master keys, leaving me with the basic immobilser key.

Toyota quoted me £1000 for a new set and re-programming, but are there any good after-market options available to me? And are they worth looking into?

Cheers

firstly welcome to toc

It's very expensive, but I doubt there are any alternatives. I'm not sure if the ecu needs reprogramming aswell, I could be mistaken but i'm sure someone else said that in a previous post.

Don't know if anyone else has resolved this issue in any other way.

Just thought id add a photo of me and the car, to put a face to a name!

Thanks for the advice, hoping to not spend a grand (as buying the car has crushed me) so any more help is appreaciated!!!

Nice car BTW

So many people will be jealous as lots of people like that colour.

Why don't you try popping to your local centre that fits alarms, maybe they can suggest something.

If it was me I would bite the bullet and invest in the new keys.

I’m sure it’s a new ECU (I read that somewhere recently) plus you will have the use of the built in alarm and dead locks.

Maybe it’s worth calling several Toyota dealers as the price may vary.

Carribean Blue.... nice one mate! Welcome to TOC!

I've read that if you find someone with spare fobs you can get them reprogrammed at a fraction of the cost.... I did have one from my last Yaris, but gave it to someone in a similar predicament to yourself a while back.... but surely you can find one on eBay or something and just get it reprogrammed...??

Good luck!

Am sure it's the same at Nissan, losing our keys reuqires a change of ECU which links to the barrel and stereo and about 6 other areas in the car which is why its so expensive.
