Toyota Carina E Key System

Hi

I just bought a 1997 Carina E 1.8 GS

It only came with one key which has a little red square at the top of the key.

I presume this is the master key and the sub key is missing.

there are no other fobs or remotes etc.

Since I would like a spare I have asked to buy a blank key from a guy in AUStralia advertising on eBay.

he has come back saying he doesn't want to send the blank unless i'm aware that it is pre imobilizer.

Since mine has only the single key would I be correct in thinking this is pre imobiliser?

The only ident on the key is TOY 47T4.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi

I dont know if this is any help but I have the same car a 1.8GS on an R Plate. When I first had the car I broke the key by opening the boot with it(pulling the boot up with the key in is not very clever) anyway I called the dealer and he told me that there was a transponder in the key that told the immobiliser that it was an origonal and would allw the car to start. Any othercopies would not have the correct transponder settings and would not disable the immobilosr. So much to my disappointment I had to pay them 40quid for my own stupidity.

Timpson (the chain of key cutters) can usually supply programme the keys with transponders, might be worth giving them a try?
