Prado Heater Won't Blow Cold Air

Hi

When I turn the heater - without aircon on - to warm it blows warm air. Subsequently I turn it to cold and it still blows warm air.

If I turn the aircon on, eventually the air goes cold and when I switch off the aircon it stays cold (cold as in air from outside - not cooled by the aircon)

Has anyone seen this before? If so do you know what is causing it?

The car is a 97 VX8.

Thanks

Sounds like the cables to your heater box need some adjustment or maybe something is jammed in there. Its a fiddly job and if you can find an aircon specialist who has knowledge of these things, leave it with them

Hi, did you get this sorted? I have the same problem with mine and am interested to understand the likely solution. Thanks

Should add, mine has 'climate control' where it has a knob that runs from 20-30c

hi, do you have climate control ?, mine does and i had similar problem, where simply the climate control was not regulating/changing the temperature hot to cold or cold to hot, i tried many things like, bleeding the system etc etc, i was staying in a warm climate and hardly ever put my heater on to hot, anyway the answer to my problem was if you lift the bonnet in the middle of the bulkhead just behind the intercooler below the windscreen there is a manual control with a valve and the two heater hoses attached to it, and a cable which is controlled/moved by the temp control knob in the car, anyway mine just needed to move/open the valve by hand then spray some WD40 on it !, with mine it was lack of use and it stuck open, anyway i hope this helps,

maybe you can help me ?, i have the prado year 2000, 3ltr diesel, and my batteries are going flat after maybe 3 days, even new ones, any ideas, or anybody reading this article

If the batteries are going flat there can only be three causes:

1. There's a current being drawn (most likely)

2. The battery's not being charged well (eg. duff alternator)

3. Defective Battery.

1. is most likely. You need to use a multimeter to measure the current drawn when the engine is off. It should be very low (eg. under 50mA). If over that then isolate circuits in turn by pulling the fuses until you find out which it is.

Someone else with a 90 may know if there's anything which regularly fails, but the radio would be the first one I'd look at.
