Hi every one.

My wife has a 1991 mk2 mr2 3sge import and we have had constant handling problems with her since buying it 9 months ago.I have so far changed all 4 shock absobers , lower ball joints and roll bar links . Changing the front shocks and links solved the front knocking noises and front end handling issues, but changing these components at the rear of the car has improved matters it has not solved them . The problems im having are a knocking sound comming from the rear left corner when the car goes over a bump or through a dip in the road and when i cross 60 mph the car starts weaving and twitching from the back . All the bushings have been checked and seem fine with no movement . The wheel bearings seem ok too as i can not feel any tilting in the wheel . The car has 4 new tyres and has had the wheel alinement done . If anyone can offer me some help i would be very greatful

thanks

steve

There may be an issue with the captive nut in the rear subframe. Once it fails you will need to either replace the subframe or cut it open and re-weld.

I had this issue, knocking on the rear left and when I got onto the motorway it felt like the back of the car was steering itself!

Turned out to be play in the arm that the wheel sits on, was a worn bush but had to buy the complete part for about £140.

I checked out the back end today , i found the bolt the attaches the lower control arm to the sub frame was loose !!! I have tightened it up and that seems to have settled the handling problems . I also found the front engine mount was worn out , gonna change it and this might cure the knocking noise . Thanks for your help , il let you know how it goes when i change the mount
