Yaris Remote Key Help Please

My Yaris 02 plate Yaris came with one 2 button remote key and one master key with no remote. I want to get a second remote key for the car.

If I buy a second hand 2 button remote key off eBay can I re-program it to my car myself?

I know if the second hand key's blades wont fit my car. The plan is to buy one of the new replacement cases with uncut blade sold on eBay, so the second hand key is just needed for the remote transponder to put in the new case.

On the back off my remote key it has a gold Toyota logo and it says:

CE0122

TOKAI RIKA CO LTD

MDL B01SA

M.t. S.H. Nr532/98

Serial No:

3.2V 3.0mA

Will the second hand key I get have to have the same information as above on the back or will any key do as long as it is a Yaris 2 button remote key?

Thanks.

My local dealer wanted £230 for a new remote key including programming!

I contacted John @ Lindop Brothers (forum name: Parts-King) and he could supply a remote key ready cut at a very good price so I ordered one from him. It came today correctly cut for my car locks.

I then used the instructions posted above by wilx to program the remote fob and it worked first time! And then programmed the key for the immobiliser system. Thanks very much wilx. :)

:D Nickp.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some additional info for anyone else looking to do this:

My orginal idea in using a second hand key would have actually worked so if anyone else wants to do it that way follow the below.

I couldnt find a second hand remote key the same as mine as the TOKAI RIKA CO ones seem to be rarer but if you have a more common one and can find a second hand key the same as yours you can do the below.

Buy a new empty remote keyfob case with uncut blade off eBay.

Get it cut at any local key cutting shop.

Buy a second hand remote key off eBay. It must be exact same model and part number as your exisitng one. The blade wont fit in your car but that doesnt matter, you only need it for the remote transponder.

Transfer the remote transponder from second hand key to the new empty remote keyfob case.

Use the instructions above to program the remote. As stated in the instructions you can erase the previous codes programmed in the transponder.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to make the instructions for programming key to immobiliser clearer as that took me a few goes:

Adding a key for the Immobiliser:

Using a black key you have that is already programmed to the immobiliser:

Insert already programmed black key into ignition switch

Within 15 seconds: Press and release accelerator pedal 5 times.

Within 20 seconds: Press and release brake pedal 6 times.

Remove black key.

Within 10 seconds: Insert the new black key to be programmed into ignition switch.

Within 10 seconds: Press and release accelerator pedal once.

Security warning lamp will flash.

After 1 minute security warning lamp will extinguish.

If programming another key:

Within 10 seconds: Insert black key to be programmed into ignition switch.

Press and release accelerator pedal once.

Security warning lamp will flash.

After 1 minute security warning lamp will extinguish.

TO EXIT PROGRAMMING MODE: REMOVE IGNITION KEY AND PRESS BRAKE PEDAL AT LEAST ONCE WITHIN 10 SECONDS, OR WAIT 10 SECONDS.

NOTE: A MAXIMUM OF 7 BLACK KEYS CAN BE PROGRAMMED.

I've tried this and it worked on my Rav 4 '03'! Save yourself £200-, which is what you'd have to pay at a main dealer. Buy a blank (I paid £7-) from eBay and a matching transponder (£20-).

You would still need to program the keyless entry and I used this technique which I also found on the net.

1. Driver door open and unlocked. Key out of the ignition

2. Insert the key and remove 2 times in 5 sec.

3. Close and open driver door 2 times in 40 sec.

4. Insert the key and remove it again from ignition.

5. Close and open driver door 2 times in 40 sec.

6. Insert the key in ignition,

7. Close the door,

8. Turn to on and back to lock in 1 second intervals. 1 time for add, 2 times for rewrite, 3 for confirmation 5 for prohibition. (yes, there is no “4”)

9. Remove the key

10. Power lock will cycle to confirm

11. For add or rewrite mode within 40 sec of the confirmation,

A. press “lock” and “unlock” buttons of the FOB at the same time between 1 and 1.5 seconds.

B. within 3 sec press “Lock” button for more than 1 sec and release.

C. If it’s correct, the power door lock will cycle once. If it’s wrong the door lock will cycle twice.

Hope this helps and saves you the time it took me to troll through the rubbish and find the necessary procedures. :)

P.S. If you have no spare, get one quick, for although I have seen some techniques for reprogramming transponders without a master. I do not know if they work for sure. Either way I would strongly recommend you get a spare with transponder, as to replace a lost key without a master will oblige you to fork out for:

1. A new ECU

2. A new key with transponder and a spare.

3. Possibly new locks. Depends on whether you still have the key code.

The key on wifes 2000 Yaris came loose from fob - I had a new black key cut from a Auto key specialist for about £30 - he put transponder in from fob key and cut off the old key part of fob key - just use fob as a stand alone remote.

If you have the second key use that in ignition and use remote to lock and unlock till you get a new key.

HI guys

New to this but hopefully someone canhelp me.

We have a 55 plate corolla verso. Suddenly a couple of weeks ago our remote key fobs stopped working. We took them to toyota and they reset them for us. they then stopped working again last week and we went again and the guy did some opening and closing the door a few times and managed to reset them. he said he couldnt give me the instructions to save me keep coming back.

does anyone know who to reset the fobs incase it happens again. I can't be bothered keep going downto toyota every 2 weeks.

Does this one for the yaris work for the verso to?

cheers

Hello guys !

I've been reading this forum for a while, and it has been really helpful for me. So first : thanks to all :)

Well, if I am posting, you bet it : I have a problem !

I bought in France (made in France) a Yaris Mk1 a year ago, with only one (black) key, and so without any remote key. With the help of a few posts in here, I managed to get a new key programmed.

But now, I would like to have a remote key. My blade is the same one as this one

136612872_tp.jpg

Do you know where I could get such an uncut key WITH the transponder/electronic in it ? Or at least only the electronic ?

I got a CE0165 model from eBay, but I didn't manage to get the remote programmed (maybe because I am using my non remote key to go into IGNITION and using the remote separatly...)

Thank you !

I have just programmed a new key for my 2005 yaris verso, using the infomation supplied by Wilx (thanks) I did the Door Remote and the Immoblizer, it took a couple of try's but they worked OK. The only thing that I found, was, when programming the Door remote, I had to have the drivers window open as well as the door. Other than that it worked fine.

Thanks again to "Wilx"

Peter

I've just been quoted the same £230 price by a company in Essex, seems a bit of a coincidence?

I've found a blank key on the 'bay, now just have to find an old key with the board and other hardware. No great loss as the key has only cost me a fiver so far.

I've been trying to programme a key to my wife's Yaris Verso for some time. I gave up last year, then her only key fell apart so I put her electronics in a new blade. That saved the day, but I still want to get a spare key working.

Regarding the Immobiliser section:

When you put the good key in the ignition the security light flashes until you turn the key to the ON position. Once you move it to Acc.or Off, the lights starts to flash immediately.

If you switch on, then press the accelerator 5 times, brake 6 times, then take the key out, it doesn't flash. In fact I can put in a new key and the engine will start. But only once!

If you switch on, then press the accelerator 5 times, brake 6 times, then take the key out, put in the new key and switch on, then press the accelerator once, the light starts to flash immediately, but it never stops. Do I need to do anything more?

I can't make the remote door programming work at all. I think I did get the locks to cycle once, so I think it's a timing thing.

If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears!

I have read just about every thread on this forum, all give a similar procedure. The one you have linked to doesn't offer anything new.

I'm wondering if my wife's 10 year old Yaris already has had 7 keys programmed to it. Or maybe the black key we have isn't a master?

i have the same issue... and i have noticed something people with cars over 2002 dont seem to have any problems with the programming.... those that are 1999-2002 do.

mine is a 2000 and i have tried every method around without sucess.

there is a guy on another forum that claims to have the correct procedure but will not give it out.... i suspect he is a wind up merchant or just full of it.

Did either of you sort out the immobiliser programming problem?

I have the same problem :(

Programming of the remote went smoothly; Had to do the button presses a few times (That bit is surprisingly time-sensitive!) but otherwise worked perfectly.

I just can't start the smegging car because I can't figure out how to program the immobiliser!

Hi there ! (from France)

Swissrob and Cyker, did you solved your key issue ?

I have a 2001 Yaris (from Japan) and I bought a key on eBay last week... I tried 20 times today to program either the immobiiser, either the remote control...without any succes.. :(

And Iooked clearly stupid opening and closing 80 times at least this door :D

I got the remote central locking working pretty easy - worked as the instructions indicated.

The immobilizer I never got working; Had to bodge it by cloning my working key onto a normal generic transponder and taping that inside my flip key!

Have you double checked the remote module is the right one for your car and that you're using the right instructions? (There are 3 types of transponder module and I think 3 slightly different programming procedures?)

Hi,

I have a Yaris from 09/2002 CDX 1.4 D-4D UK and recently replaced a falling apart original black remote key case with one that was cut by carkeyhelp.co.uk from a tag number attached. All the other keys have been lost by previous owners. To my surprise the new blank key was cut perfectly and all is working fine despite a couple of bad reviews of this website. Now, after reading some forums that it costs about £200-900 to replace ECU if I loose my only master key I got back to them to enquire about a transponder key (they said they'd not get a good price for new remotes and that should get from Toyota). A transponder key with no remote is about £18 including cutting so this is the most optimal option for a car worth mere £1400.

The problem is that instructions to determine which key I have from these guys/internet don't match i.e. they say after inserting master key into ignition without turning the security light should go off instantly but it keeps flashing as if no key was inserted. Also, if it was a valet key the security light would go off after 2 seconds so it's not the one I have either. Then last one states that if my key is unprogrammed the security light would keep flashing. This is what's happening in my case but with this key I can operate all functions and start my car (have been using for the past 3.5 years). So, none of the three information is correct in my case and the security light only goes off instantly when I turn my key to ON position when all dashboard lights come on. Therefore, am now puzzled and not certain what key I have and whether it's worth getting another one cut with transponder that can be programmed using various techniques available on the internet.
