Water Ingress

Hi all,

Bit of a problem which my dealer is taking a look at whilst having new cat converter fitted.

Noticed the other day that the floor pan on the passenger side was absolutely soaked, in fact dripping wet as was my floor mat.

As if a full bottle of water had been poured on it, I managed to soak about half a pint up, I immediately suspected the air conditioning unit leaking (the water was clean and not oily if this helps) as I had had the air con on the night before to de mist my screen.

Dealer recons the air con is working fine but is investgating further as technician is aware of the area the water is coming from but is still not sure where from.

He also informed me of a body leak or split seam would not be covered on my extended warranty, he suggested it could be a blocked drain somewhere and water has collected then poured out into the floor pan

Any ideas/or experiences of this?

Cheers

Hi there. I had the same problem with my rav4 + mine was the sunroof drain. I dont know if u av a sunroof but mine lifts out + then the drains are visible on either edge of where the sunroof panel sits. I did try un-blockin the pipes with a long piece of wire but it continued to leak. Theres a tube which comes down from the roof + runs down into the car. if you sit in the passenger seat + look to the left side under the glove box behind the carpet + fuse box the tube runs down threw a hole in the floor + drains the water out underneath the car. I then decided to block the drain hole to the passenger side off - as a temp fix - which I did with silicone. I lifted the sunroof panel out + simply filled the drain hole with a small amount of silicone. The water no longer leaks into my footwell so must find its way round to the drain on the driver side of the sunroof. Longterm I need to sort the drain out but blockin it off means at least I dont av a puddle everytime it rains. Have you noticed if you're left with a puddle only when its rained.?

had the same but it was the windscreen seal top left - and the water tracked down inside the pillar, followed wires down to fusebox area and then behind plastic kickplate to passenger footwell.

Biggest problem once you fix it is getting the carpet underlay felt dried out - try not to set a fire inside the footwell to dry it out as it can spread quickly.....

the windscreen offers the car some body rigidity and if the seal is inadequately applied, it can fail thus allowing the water in as the body (car) flexes. In my case I only found it by removing the dashboard and tracing the water ingress upwards. A new screen sorted the problem.

I had the same problem, and it was the result of poor fitting of a new windscreen by a company that are specialised in fitting windscreens :g: . At first I noticed it on the drivers side, and after that got fixed, I noticed the same (but less water) on the passenger side... then I had to go back  Wasn't too happy about that!

Anyway, car has been dry since.
