  1. Hi, Recently purchased a 2019 Corolla. It has the Toyota Touch 2 (Without Go). I understand that the Car will support Apple Car Play. I know I can have this retro fitted by Toyota. I wonder if its possible to update \ install Apple Car Play myself without going through Toyota? I heard that its possible through a subscription with toyota-tech. Is that possible? Alternatively, is it possible to retrofit Satellite Navigation to the car in a similiar way? Any directions welcome. Kind regards

    MyT App... issues?

Looking back my missing journeys and issues began after i first connected my phone to Apple CarPlay... and to test this I have since Monday last week disconnected it. And so far all my journeys have recorded! Is this a coincidence or not? Not sure - but i'll give it a few more days and see if it still works. Otherwise if it isn't the phone linking thing then it is just down to the App and software - although i only just had my DCM unit updated on recall and the issue was still there, but unlinking phone seems to be the trick for me.

It does and Apple CarPlay too, but I’m wondering what is this Apps option in Sources
  5. I picked up my red 2.0 Excel Touring with JBL yesterday. Totally get the frustration many are feeling, and I am not posting to rub it in anyone’s face, simply to share my experience in the hope it may be helpful to some. Attached photos show my 2020 black Corolla Excel beside new one, main differences being bigger 18 inch wheels and updated infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay. Ordered 24th February Expected delivery 17th August Had some communication with dealer around the time and after but they were unable to tell me when they expected the car to arrive, and I don’t blame them for that- they can’t tell me if they don’t know themselves. Got to stage I just expected I wouldn’t see the car until at least a few months into 2023, and didn’t know if it would be 23 or 22 spec. Build in Progress 13th December Left Factory and In Transit (Derbyshire) 14th December Visited dealer and saw car had arrived 27th December. Dealer was still closed for Christmas so must have been delivered before Christmas. App updated to say Arrived at Retailer 29th December Electronically signed paperwork 3rd January Collected 4th January Car is 22 spec, registered 23. Monthly payment went up by about Β£2 which I’ll not fall out with anyone over, and still 0%. I wish those still waiting the best, and genuinely hope the same deals made at the time of ordering are honoured! The car is worth it when it finally arrives. And my last one was fantastic up to hand over yesterday at 31k miles.
  6. Corollanutter

Looking at buying a Corolla 2lt hybrid.

I migrated from Passat Estate (x2) to Avensis Estate 2.2D (x2) and then my current Corolla 1.8 TS Excel. IMHO the Corolla is a better car than any of them. Far more relaxing to drive, great economy and very similar accomodation - both passenger wise and in the boot. The weakest thing is the fairly poor cubbyhole / storage inside the Corolla - and the vehicle itself being quite low-down. Not so great as you are getting older - and I'll probably go for a small SUV style (Yaris Cross??) next time round - as I won't need to carry quite so much stuff around when I'm retired. I use Apple Carplay and Waze for Nav as I found the older (2019) Toyota system not great.
  7. Hi all! Just collected my 71 reg TS Trek edition today and I am very impressed. Very refined and comfortable, my first drive home felt like I’ve driven it for ages. Except for some features like the Bowers & Wilkins system, I can’t say I will miss my previous Volvo S90 Inscription πŸ™‚ I have 2 questions concerning the in-car entertainment system. Have read the manual but can’t seem to find anything obvious. Apple CarPlay : The car seem to have wireless CarPlay which is great! However I can’t seem to work out how to toggle it back to the normal car display. Only way to achieve this is to turn off Bluetooth on my phone. Audio settings : I also can’t seem to find anywhere to adjust audio settings (treble/mid/bass and front/rear balance). Is this adjustable?
  8. It might be just me being new to the iphone or fairly new to the car but when i use the iphone sat nav the voice direction is very loud and i can't find a way as yet of making it quieter. The built in Toyota sat nav is fine for volume but not a patch on useability compared to the iphone. Does anyone know of a way of adjusting the sound level either within the iphone menu or car software. Any help much appreciated. If listening to music at the same time as using the satnav then adjusting the volume on the head unit whilst reducing the satnav volume also makes the music too quiet.
  9. I think over time, one will get much more used to using voice for everything. Even thou I can use Apple CarPlay, I prefer this Toyota interface. It has warned me a few times of impending traffic and rerouted me.

    MyT

Apple maps logs the location when either the bluetooth or Apple CarPlay is shutdown so it is worked out using the phones GPS, the car does not communicate.
  11. Past couple of weeks when using CarPlay, it would disconnect momentarily during a journey. Tried different cables and iPhones but same thing happened. From yesterday when the phone is plugged it, it will charge the device but the prompt for CarPlay no longer appears. Anyone had similar issues?

    Use Android Auto or not?

We use Apple Carplay in both the Yaris (no Nav) and in the Corolla my22, prefer Waze to the inbuilt system

    Use Android Auto or not?

Hi Obsidian Estate. I feel that you shouldn't have to use Android Auto but the Toyota display is like going back decades. When I commeted, even the sales guy said that most people use Apple Carplay or Android. Interesting to see that the 2023 spec has an upgraded system. Perhaps I've been spoilt by the VW group's excellent system. Fingers crossed that I'll get used to my new one.

New car pick up Android auto & Apple cp

With early Corollas, the Apple Carplay/Android Auto update was available from late 2020, and could be done either as a standalone update or with a service (which was cheaper). Prices in linked topic may have increased. See

    Satnav updates

Success! Well, regardless what my local main dealer told me when I picked up the car new, and when asked if they could add it to the car, Apple CarPlay is already in my car. How come the main dealer didn’t know, I’m techs green so I’ve got an excuseπŸ˜‰ Anyway, after two phone calls to Toyota Customer Relations (excellent service) the car is now β€œconnected” and the maps are up to date. Because the maps were so old (Nov 19) I could not down load the updates straight to the car so had to load to my pc than onto a usb. If the wed site was better most of the hassle could have been avoided, but it’s rubbish. Thanks again for your help.
  16. Other than this issue I’m happy with the Corolla, I don’t use them Toyota satnav due to it taking me down country lanes which my19 didn’t AVC’s was fine, so not I use Apple car play satnav which also gets the speed cameras correct, tutors system seems to have many missing despite the previous car finding them. So I’d say the new head unit in my22 is a total failure, thank goodness CarPlay works and rescues much of what’s missing in the Toyota system. As for connected services, I don’t see what we have been given, not even send to car is there yet. I do hope the list of new features in my23 will be present and functioning from day one.

  18. I am curious what other cars did you consider as an alternative to the Corolla, and why did you end up choosing the Corolla. I had high hopes for the new Honda HR-V. I like Hondas, my first two cars were Jazz and CR-V, and this new upcoming hybrid HR-V looked interesting. The infotainment is great (I've test driven the new Jazz with the same system), but the hybrid power train was a concern. Unlike Toyota, Honda uses a different type of hybrid system: the engine is disconnected from the wheels, and acts as a generator for the battery and motor. Only at high speeds the engine connects to the wheels via a single-speed transmission. This crates an even worse sound effect than CVTs and eCVTs. When you accelerate, the engine sounds like a hair dryer or a vacuum cleaner β€” a simple constant moan. Also, it seems like Honda gave up on Finland. Several dealerships closed, I can barely see new Hondas on the road, and the website feels abandoned. For example, if you go to Honda Finland website right now, and click on "New Civic Hybrid", you'll see "Page not found" πŸ™‚ I mean, did anyone test it at all? I also considered Kia Ceed. The hatchback version is a great size: not too small (in contrast to Corolla HB), not too big. I had a test drive of Ceed SW (estate), mild hybrid, and didn't quite love it. It's a great car, nice interior and good price. But I found three negatives: uncomfortable seats, noisy cabin at speeds over 50 mph, and slightly jerky automatic gearbox (double-clutch) in slow town driving. Coming from CVT/eCVT/hybrid world, Kia's DCT feels very unrefined in traffic. I had a similar experience with Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid. The dealer couldn't provide a hatchback for a test drive, and said "it's basically the same as this station wagon, so do you want to buy it?" πŸ™‚ Both me and my wife liked the idea of CH-R, but the styling, especially the rear end... oof.. So busy, so much style over function, and I don't like that style πŸ˜„ Similar thoughts on Lexus UX: I find it unpleasantly styled, but there is nothing to compensate for it. While the interior seems lovely, the user experience (Ha-ha, UX! πŸ™‚) is weirdly subpar. No Apple Carplay, no media controls on the dashboard (only on the middle console), that weird trackpad thingy. We even considered a fully electric VW ID.3, but its UX is even worse. I detest touch interfaces, and VW went full on with it. At this point, I hope to keep the Corolla until a really good, non-gimmicky EV is available. Other cars I considered: Subaru XV. Turned out too fuel inefficient. Also, like Honda, very poor dealer coverage in Finland. VW Golf and Seat Leon: touch interfaces everywhere. Mazda 3: too cramped, bad visibility, and endless rattles and creaks. Confirmed by lots of owners on web forums. Hyundai i30: after test driving the Ceed, I didn't bother with i30, pretty sure it wouldn't have been quieter or less jerky. Honda Civic: very low passenger seat without height adjustment, last-gen infotainment, firm ride. Also, the rear end of the hatchback is pretty ugly. Cars I did not consider: Skoda Octavia: don't know why, but I simply ignored Skoda all my life, even though I have nothing against it. On paper, I think the Octavia is an excellent vehicle, although I hear a lot of complaints due to road noise and overall refinement. Citroens, Peugeots, Renaults, and other French cars: after having a PSA-based Opel, I think I developed an allergy to PSA/Stellantis cars, and, by extension, to all French cars. It's irrational, I know... BMW/Audi/Mercedes: never had any experience with these, and frankly not sure what to think about them. Styling wise, I love Audis, and hope to get one some day, perhaps an EV.
  19. I very much doubt Toyota will allow a user to stream music via the DCM. If you want to use Spotify to stream music via the infotainment system then use your phone's data connection with Android Auto or Apple Carplay.
  20. Received our MY19 1.8h TS Design this morning, and aside from a missing wheel-well repair kit insert, a boat load of cosmetic defects and the worst external valet I've ever seen, Carplay is definitely not working. Tried three genuine Apple lightning cables and a Belkin for good measure and nothing happens when plugged in, either at phone or car. Can't find reference to Carplay/Android Auto in car settings either. Simplest explanation would be that the dealer just didn't do the update but they assure us they did, despite being unable to advise why it's not working. Is there anything else that needs to happen for this activate? Or are there some model-years/specs where the update doesn't 'take' for any reason? Grateful for any known tips/fixes before I take it into the local branch of the network we purchased from. I'm close to rejecting the car anyway but if there's any potential for ongoing issues with the infotainment system then it's definitely going back. Many thanks in advance,

    2022 Go Navigation map updates

Not in my case - I did the same as you (deleting the profile, etc.) and for the last couple of days have no issues with profile not loading (which is to be expected as there's technically no profile), but the car's current location and last trip recording are still hit and miss...as I mentioned in the "Profile not loading" thread, the issue is indeed software related as per Toyota Motor Europe's feedback, but with the DCM - obviously some MY22 vehicles are particularly affected like my TS and a patch is due. Truth is I really don't care about trips and hybrid coaching anymore, I track my mileage on a tank basis and that's good enough for me, but I'd like to keep track of car's location and to use Apple CarPlay - the latter seems to be working now without the profile failing and breaking the CarPlay initiation.
  22. Just to clarify: this works even if I connect the phone for wireless Apple CarPlay? And you said the car remains in the MyT app anyway: does that mean the data is still recorded in the app, like mileage, current position, etc?
  23. Well, I blame john p williams, I visited a Toyota dealership a few days ago to take another look at Touring Sports, thinking that the best case scenario I maybe, perhaps, who knows, I would order one in a few months, and it will take another 6 months to build, yada yada. And the first thing I see as I come in is that beautiful 2.0 TS GR-sport with bi-tone colorus ("Precious Silver", color code 2RD). Black roof, black logos, black roof rails, black door trims, darkened headlights. Someone ordered it, but had to cancel last minute, and the car came to Finland a week ago, and was being sold as a "Toyota approved user car", with staggering 7 km on the odometer. It's a 2022 model, with absolutely everything. Well, except for a panoramic roof. It has 18" GR sport wheels, wireless charging, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, HUD, JBL 9 speaker system, new navigation with wireless Apple CarPlay, electrically operated boot lid with kick-to-open feature, bi-led headlamps... It's ridiculously specced! Btw, heated steering wheel comes standard on all Corollas in Finland. What I did not realize is that this model comes with Toyota Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). So, in addition to "Eco", "Normal" and "Sport S" it has "Comfort" mode which softens suspension response. Also, being a 2.0 GR sport model, it has "Sport S+" mode, but I'm not sure how it differs from the regular "Sport S" mode. There's also "Custom" mode where you can configure suspension and throttle response yourself. E.g. you may want softer suspension with sportier acceleration. The salesperson was very helpful, and I took the car for a test drive, adding another 33 kilometers to the odo reading. In short β€” this is a better car in all aspects compared to my 1.8 HB. Feels like a grown-up version of it. Variable suspension, in addition to a slightly longer wheelbase, does make a difference. In "Comfort" mode, the car goes over bumps with a floaty feeling. And this is with enormous 18" wheels and, as usual, overinflated tires (yes I checked ;)) I didn't want to push the brand new engine too much, but with my limited testing the 2.0L engine feels a great deal more responsive and refined. Again, it's like a grown up, more capable, more reassuring version of my 1.8L. It doesn't sound as struggling as the 1.8, even at 5000rpm. Feels effortless in most situations, and has a different growl. I did a lot of sound deadening in my HB (wheel arches, floor, boot, bonnet, doors), and I have 17" wheels with Davanti tires (pretty quiet ones). And this 2.0L TS with 18" and stock Falken tires felt a bit quieter. The glass of the windows and the windshield have different codes (none say "Acoustic" though), and the sound of cars passing by is much quieter in the TS. I imagine if you apply the same sound deadening and switch to at least 17" non-Falken tires, then this TS would be pretty damn quiet. Wireless Apple CarPlay works well, HUD is nice. Too bad it doesn't show blind spot warning (like it does on current gen. Mazda 3/CX-30), but at least it shows the speed, speed limit, customizable tachometer/power band, compass, navigation and some other notifications like phone, music, etc (can be disabled). Position, rotation and brightness are also customizable. JBL sound system made me actually want to listen to music in the car again. It's fantastic! I'm no audiophile, but the difference between the stock system I had in the HB, and this JBL system is enormous. The bass is crisp and clear, and I can hear all the details. The boot is the work of art (TS owners know this). Reversible and height-adjustable boot floor, rubber anti-slip strips, LED lights, lots of storage, and seats go completely flat. Fuel economy: in ECO mode I got the same kind of consumption as with a 1.8 HB in normal mode. However, ECO mode in 2.0L does not feel underpowered at all! So, I went for it β€” swapped the 1.8 HB for a 2.0L TS GR-Sport. Driven 2000km already. It's so weird β€” same car, but better in all regards, as if my HB went through a self-improvement program, hit the gym, learned new tricks and became more solid and capable πŸ˜„ While the 18" wheels with factory Falkens look great, I did swap them for my old 17" wheels, which made the ride quieter and softer.

    Personal profile not loading, etc

I’m still using apple car play every day. After I reset infotainment system and removed the car from CarPlay on my phone. I connected everything again. It’s worked perfectly ever since.

    Personal profile not loading, etc

I had this issue and fixed it last weekend and haven’t had anything since. I reset all settings on my cars infotainment system and at the same time removed my car from Apple CarPlay and then reconnected everything. As I said it’s been nearly a week now and so far so good.
