No, it isnt. Faster system, improved UI and wireless apple carplay!

    iPhone car mount

I'll have to look into it, because I don't see Apple losing out on that trick. I just looked, it does that trick. The other thing I am not keen on is the poor resolution from CarPlay on the Touch 2 screen, but I'm not thrilled about the reversing camera resolution, either. I bet it's a limitation of touch 2.

I don't care about toyota smart connect services (currently don't have them either). Apple CarPlay is better.

Reading about the new multimedia system is frustrating as I just picked up a 2.0 GR Sport a couple weeks ago build date in September. It has the soon to be older multimedia system. I won’t mind so much if they update the old one but the wireless Apple CarPlay is a kicker. I guess I’ll have to buy an adapter.

    Google maps

Yes, I use Apple CarPlay to display Google maps and always use that for navigation, I’ve not used the Toyota nav at all.

To get an idea of what Toyota's new multimedia platform including the head unit looks and feels like and how to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay with it wirelessly, take a look at this video posted to YouTube by Toyota USA. Note it's all about Toyotas in the US so some or none of this may apply here in the UK or elsewhere in Europe. And the vehicle in the video animation is a Tundra pickup for the US market not a Corolla even for that market. But I'd be surprised if this didn't illustrate the probability of what's possibly coming here in the next year or so.

    3 chirps

I've got a similar issue, if I move off I get a 2 tone beeps/chirps intermittently / random timing for about 15mins, I thought it may be speed limit warnings etc, but not related to speed limit or temperature. No warning on dash either. Strangely if I set off on a journey with my iphone plugged in & run apple CarPlay I do not get the sounds? 2020 Corolla TS

    Constant battery drain problem

What version of software is your Nav unit (MEU) running? Press "setup" button then scroll down on RH menu to software update. MM17 cars without Apple carplay/Andriod auto versions lower than 1530 can have a fault where the nav ecu doesn't always power down MM19 cars with ACP/AA versions lower than 1120 can have a fault where the nav ecu doesn't always power down

Some nice little tweaks and a refresh on the MMU will be much needed, I look forwarding to seeing how that is when the models actually start coming out. Any news on wireless charging and wireless apple carplay/android auto? I guess if it's not specifically mentioned then it's unlikely.
  10. Hard to find any warm and highly positive comments in this thread about Toyota's navigation software. As I mentioned before, I don't bother with it at all. I use Android Auto usually with Google Maps navigation although I'm also trying out TomTom GO which is quite good. I really do recommend switching to Android Auto. Also recognising the reality that you'll need a data plan on your recent-model smartphone that will give you the ability to remain connected all the time. Google does offer offline maps, but typically it's the live traffic data that's most valuable, for which you need an Internet connection. Check the discussions about Android Auto in this forum to get a sense of what others have said: https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/search/?&q=Android Auto&type=forums_topic&quick=1&nodes=50&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy You'll note I haven't mentioned Apple CarPlay yet. I don't have any Apple devices is the reason. But if you do, it is definitely worth considering. Here's what others have said about it: https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/search/?&q=Apple CarPlay&type=forums_topic&quick=1&nodes=50&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy
  11. Hi all, I'll be using apple CarPlay when the car arrives, I listen to music via Spotify and use Waze for navigation, both I believe are now available on CarPlay. Do I have to data-cable the iPhone to the USB under the facia? I'm assuming the second USB under the armrest is just for charging? Do you also have to make a bluetooth connection for CarPlay to work? Or is the bluetooth connection for the head unit to access the iPhone contact list etc when not using CarPlay? Secondly, if my wife is in the car, and she has an iPhone does the car only recognise one of the phones at a time? I'm assuming so, and that it is the one connected by the data cable. I know, I could wait a few months and find out for myself, just childishly excited 🙂 M

    Smart phone

I think the last few posts highlight the point that, whilst you don't HAVE to use a smartphone, your life is a hell of a lot simpler and easier if you DO, at least when it comes to navigation. This is not a criticism of Toyota in particular, it goes for any car. The routing & navigation facilities built into a phone these days are just better. I've found Apple carplay to be a godsend, especially in situations where you're in a foreign country, it's a hired car, the language is foreign and the postcode format is different. None of these things are an issue any more when you can just plug in your phone and immediately have access to a simpler, better system that's always kept bang up to date in terms of mapping and traffic conditions.
  13. speaking of wireless, as you've said. Wireless charging and also wireless android auto/apple carplay would be perfect 🙂

MyT app, send navigation to car

As I have said before I find that the online connection away from home only works reliably with Wi-Fi power off. You then use Bluetooth tethering to the internet via your phone. I only turn Wi-Fi on to download map updates via my home Wi-Fi. I have discovered another issue though. I used Apple CarPlay today and when I had done with it I had to reconnect Toyota online services again. There appears to be a few software conflictions. The password and email required is the same for the MyT app, online services and Toyota website.
  15. I bet it is a later addition. My car was built in early June 2020 (the UK factory reopened in late May after the first lockdown closure) and this car included the latest at the time software including support for Android Auto and Apple Carplay. I agree, the message is a bit nannyish. I think it's a legal requirement for safety.

    2021v1 Map Update now available

You can use TomTom via Android auto & apple carplay
  17. You get the choice when you do the download onto the usb stick, not at the in-car update. You do need to copy the FMU folder to the stick. Did mine this morning on a 2020 TS with Apple CarPlay.

    Multimedia update

Sounds like this is the upgrade that installs Apple Carplay and Android Auto - which is different to the usual multimedia updates and is £50 with a service.

    USB ports on Corolla

It has a single ‘data transferable’ USB located on the lower part of the centre console. A second USB is found under the centre armrest in the storage area but this is only for charging devices. Pretty poor for a so called modern car to be honest and if you use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, having the phone permanently plugged into the only usable USB limits a lot of options.

    CarPlay no longer working

When I bought the Corolla in January I connected my Apple iPhone via USB cable and all was fine using Apple CarPlay. About a week ago CarPlay stopped working. The USB port and cable are ok as it charges my phone, my iPhone has the latest IOS 14.5.1, I can still use my phone through the car using Bluetooth, I can play audio from my phone through the car via USB, but I can’t use maps or apps anymore. now when I connect I try selecting on my phone Settings > General > CarPlay but now there are no options where it used to show ‘CAR MULTIMEDIA’ any ideas what has changed to stop CarPlay from working? And how to fix it?

    Micro SD slot

I think this is what you're looking at - The pic is from a LHD car so the usb port will be on the left in your car. I use this port to connect my phone for Apple Carplay.

    Multimedia

There is no UK option for the nav as it's designed to be used with a mobile device with Android auto or Apple Carplay for the nav/apps the manual is a European wide, English manual, so it covers lots of markets and options The biggest downside is you need internet access to use most of the map services though there are a few options to use maps stored on your phone You're not the first and sadly will not be the last to come across it

Retro Fit Apple Carplay & Android Auto

Hi Guys, I am in the process of buying a 2019 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Icon Tech from a dealer in the UK. The registration is March 2019 so will this be available for the apple carplay retrofit upgrade? P.S - Are all models of Corolla 2019 hatchback eligible for the upgrade not depending on any 2019 registration date?
  25. I had my Toyota dealer (Dublin) retro-fit both Apple Carplay and Android Auto to my 2019 Corolla Hybrid in February this year. My infotainment system does not gave Go. No problem. With my phone connected, I can use Google Maps or Here maps. Also, you can download maps from Google and Here to your phone, so expensive mobile data charges are not an issue. I'm very happy with this arrangement and have no difficulty with cable connection whatsoever. As for music; I have lots if music stored on my phone. Just my opinion
