Iq Front Disc Confusion.

How many types of front discs are there for the IQs?

Some places say will fit all and some split between 1/2009 or 6/2009 to now! Are there 1, 2, or 3 types, or just 1? There seems to be no consensus here.

As far as I know the brakes are the same on the 1.0 and the 1.33 models and they haven't changed since the iQ was released. There is no mention of different types in the workshop manual except some models did have drum rear drakes. Not in the UK though I believe.

I asume you're looking to replace them, how many miles has the car done? Just curious as I'm going to be servicing the brakes soon on my car with a light skim of the discs and new pads.

No Craig

I'm not looking to replace them yet, but I probably will have to if we have a bad winter this year. You may remember I live on a fairly steep hill that's also narrow. The problem is the salted road gets wet and the trucks splash saline in to my wheels and it rusts the hell out of my discs. I have found some wheel covers with the help of you Guys, but I bet they will get stolen within a few hours of me fitting them! I was just looking at prices and availability. Actually it's not that great, EBC seem to be the only after market discs on offer and they are the same as standard OEM ones, none of the specials seem to fit the IQ. There are Chinese one about, but................ I do have a feeling the Aygo may have the same discs, but I need to find out from somewhere, if they are the same as another Toyota model, some better made discs shoud be available.

Why do you need a skim Craig? are they rusty, or just scored?

Oh yeah, I remember your previous post now about the rusting discs.

My discs are not really scored but the rear ones have a slight ridge around the outside and the inside of the braking area. I could just fit new pads and let them rub the ridge off but as I have a lathe in the garage I thought I'd whip the discs off, skim the ridges off, give them a good clean up and spray them silver before refitting with new pads.

I'll take some pictures as I do the job but it will probably be in the summer sometime. Raining here again now. :(

I remember the Smart car had only 1mm maximum wear before a
replacement disc was required, I guess this was because the discs are only
solid like the IQ rears and really not too expensive. I bought a pair of Pagid
front Smart discs for around £35 plus shipping, now that's cheap. IQ front
discs are more like a real car, proper vents and a lot thicker. I hope your
skim goes well And spraying the hubs with calliper silver paint does look
very nice. It's strange, the Pagid and the Smart discs are sprayed all over,
the paint just quickly wears off the working part. It also shows the Pagid make
the discs for Smart and quite a few prestige cars as well.

Right, there are no variations of brake friction materials on European IQ

Front discs 43512-74010 All EU IQ

Front Pads 04465-74020 All EU IQ

Where fitted

Rear discs 42431-52080 All EU IQ

Rear pads 04466-52170 All EU IQ ( Was 04466-52140 / 04466-52141 )

Some of the parts above share with Japanese/US IQ & Yaris but none share with any other EU model
