Toyota Avensis New Radio Fitted Causing Noise In The Speakers

Hi Folks,

Got a new radio which I fitted today. Got it all in relatively easy. But when I turned it on I noticed that once it powers up there is a noise coming from the Speakers. It is an electrical noise, something similar to what old phone chargers sounded like before you plugged a phone into them. Nearly like a feedback..

Does this point to something not being correctly connected or has anybody any other ideas what it could be?????????????

If it was a straight plug in, then I think the new unit is faulty.

Either that or the radio needs extra noise suppression that the original unit coped with.

Recheck all the connections to make sure everything is connected properly and the right way.

It was a straight plug in as I bought the adaptor to plug the toyota plugs into an iso connector. Could a loose connection cause this?

Thanks for the reply!!! How do I add noise suppression?

Do you hear this noise only when the engine is running ?

Does the noise level change with the radio volume setting?

Once the radio is turned on the noise starts regardless of if the engine is running or not!

Go to any car audio supplier and they should sell suppressors.

But since the noise happens with the engine off, I think the new unit is faulty if the connections have been rechecked.

Make sure the pin-outs are correct since you are using an adaptor. Also make sure the memory and switched power are correct.

Something simple may be causing the noise, but again I will look at the new stereo.

Go back the seller, who may have another stereo to plug in and test your wiring. That may confirm if the stereo you bought is faulty.

So for a different reason I have returned the radio and changing for a different model. Still pioneer though.

Would I be right in saying that the red is the live power and the yellow is the memory power??

When I was removing it though i noticed a connection at the back( see the photo) When i disconnected this, it seemed to stop the noise. Can anybody tell me what this is for??

Hi Martin,

I can answer your question regarding the red and yellow, memory and live power cables. They are designed to be reversed because some manufacturers (car or audio), do not follow the same wiring set patten. What you need to do before !Removed! everything in, is to connect to aerial and turn on the radio and tune a station (press and hold a preset to store the station). Then you turn off the accessories and remove the key. Turn the key to accessory mode and turn on the radio to see if the station is still tuned. If not and you get static, turn off and pull out the stereo to swap the the red and yellow cables. So you will the have the red going to the yellow and visa versa.

Does the new unit behave properly with no noise?

The plug may have been mentioned in the forum. Have a search on the forum for audio pin outs. I will search too.

Thanks for that. Thats a handy way of double checking. The new unit won't be delivered until Saturday so I am back with good old reliable standard radio again for now!
