hi all im new here and am wondering if any of you could please help me with something.

i bought a 56 plate avensis D4D 2.2l T180 tourer 3 months ago now. it has around 118000 on the clock.

a week or so after buying the car it started making what can only be described as a blowing noise when accelerating. it only occures at 1200-1800rpm. it wont do it while out of gear and reving the engine and when it gets to 1800 it stops or if i let off the accelerator a little.

its not the exhaust but it sounds as iff i have a hole in it.

there does not seem to be any loss of power as it goes like the clappers and there are no dash lights on. im getting 32.7mpg according to the trip comp and i dont know if thats good or bad...... i am a sensible driver so thought it may be a little more but hey ho!

any input on this would be greatly appreciated!

thank you very much for your time

joel

it will be the airbox when it meets the wing, the foam will have perished

32.7mpg seems a bit low but then again you dont say if thats urban or long journeys

well thats combined but we do a hell of alot more school runs than we do motorway journeys............ we did a trip to cambridge recently and after resetting the trip we got 36mpg from nearly 2 hours motorway and dual track miles............ could you please go into a lil more detail my friend about the air box and wing............. very much appreciated for your time

Your EGR will cause the fuel consumption to be worse so that may be causing all your problems.

Just check the air intake rubber hose going to the turbo for any holes or splits, they can be a cause for a blowing whistling type noise.
