Got a new excel hybrid with tss, just wondering whether this is normal from a new car?

Not normal, but do read up and do your homework beforehand. Probably will be told it's normal because of manufacturing process. I wouldn't accept it, however what matters is that you payed money for fault free car. Remember you're not a charity.

When you go back to your dealer, ask to compare the look of the engine with other Auris hybrids they have of an equivalent age, which will determine whether it is a common issue or not.
