2001 Yaris Radio Cassette Unit Failed Radio

Have a Yaris 1.0 GS with a faulty radio cassette unit, cassette is fine radio isnt working.

Have seen all the posts on replacements, have browsed eBay to death on replacement toyota cd units, which seem to go for a small fortune (business idea maybe???)

Wondering whether the information I was given about the standard radio unit having an fm amplifier unit to boost the reception is true?

Whats the way forward, know of any refurbishers, repairers or am I only able to replace the whole %$(ing lot?
