Little brother bought his first car 2 weeks ago

unfortunatly he bought a clio 56 plate 1.2 campus with 2500mile on it even after urging him to go for a german/jap car

got a phone call at 6.30 saying his tyre had blown out so i drove down to change the wheel for him as he had never done this before

went in the boot got the stuff out and jacked the car up

i then realised the centre cap of the wheel covered the bolts and there was no release key in the car or boot so i had to smash it off with my own wheel brace

getting under the cap i then realised that there was no wheel brace in the car :|

with things not going very smoothly i tryed my wheel brace..... didnt fit

i got my mam to ask next door as they ahd a clio but oh no they were in leeds

being rather stressed by now i remembered i had rac cover so i rang them and asked them to come out

75mins :| got back in the clio to try and move it in to a layby, turned the key....nothing and again.....nothing

Battery was only flat now and had only had the hazard warning lights on for an hour

thankfully the RAC came in 30 mins and put the spare on and jump started the car

what a faff on

but thankfully he was ok as it was the passangers side that blew out at 60mph on a road with a drop into a feild on the left side of him with many trees very lucky escape id say

Only had the car for 2 weeks at it has no centre cap release key or wheel brace - how annoying - sent it back to France

That's horrible, could have been a whole lot worse though, glad he's ok

Problem with second hand cars you never know how it was driven before you got it. It may have been up and down a lot of kerbs causing a weakness in the tyre wall.

Might be an idea to change all 4 as it probably happen to one of the other 3 remaining tyres

That one looks past its best already even for a 56 plate @ 2,500 miles, it should look like new.

Out of interest, whereabouts on the tyre was the blow out?

That gaping hole was caused by the impact with the kerb, which I think you said occurred after the blow out itself.

;) ;) ;) ;) if that tyre is off a 56plate 2500K car then there is something very wrong......... No wheel brace or locking key......

Where did he buy the car from....The tread on that tyre is looking more like 30k and knackered....He's a very lucky lad indead......

Seen a porche have a blow out was quite amusing ;) and not fatal.

Glad your bro is ok though.

When ever I get a new car, the first thing I do is take it to a local garage and get them to check it over, and replace all that needs to be replaced.....when I bought Kiya she needed a new tyre.....mebbe changing that particular tyre stopped an accident from happening, who knows??? ^_^

Lets look at the evidence....

The tyre blew out THEN he hit the kerb??.. Don't you think it's funny how the wheel is badly damaged at the exact point where the tyre has given out?

My 20+ years of experience in these things tells me that an object was hit causing the wheel and tyre damage... I think your brother is pulling the wool over your eyes as to what really happened.

He obviously needs a new tyre and there is no way it will be fitted to that weheel in its present condition.. so a new wheel or a hefty wheel repair is required too.

Goosd luck with it though.. hope you get it sorted out.. and remember to get the tracking checkked too as the impact may well have knocked it out.

As for the centre cap... if you loose the key for these ones.. you can get them off with a small pair of snips or long nose pliers... I do it every day.

indeed upon looking at the tyre up close i do believe he is a lying little shat!i think he may ave been flookin about n doesnt wanna let on

as for the car it was in a bump before he got it only a small one the and the tyre was damaged and replaced with another which seems to be a lot more worn think he borrowed it out of the skip of quickfit :|

the wheel is currently being repared and having a new comtinental tyre put on it

not sure what cost it is

They can repair that!

I'm amazed anyone can make that round again.

Can't blame him for not wanting to own up to the damage though.

But if he went to a tyre dealer claiming it had blown out before hitting the kerb they'd have laughed at him.

I did as soon as I saw the picture and read the post

We get people trying it on all the time... not that it makes any difference to us either way... we send it back to the manufacturer for inspection.. if ANY refunds are due.. they sort it out, not the tyre dealer. When you explain to them that they will know straight away what has caused the damage.. they drop it.
