I need some help with the gear ratio's on the VVTL-i 6 speed box.
As far as I knew the gear ratios were:-
1st 3.166
2nd 2.050
3rd 1.481
4th 1.166
5th 0.916
6th 0.725
Reverse 3.250
Differential Ratio 4.529
Does anyone know if they did a 6 speed box which had longer ratio gears? Perhaps on another model car?
I've swapped a box due to a fault and the ratios do not appear the same??
Was the VVT-i a 6 speed box? Did that have longer ratios due to the lower rev limit?
Thanks for any help.
Mike

Yes to your last two questions Mike.
Thanks for that, that might explain what's happened.
Does anyone have figures for the ratios of the VVT-i 140 gearbox?
Thanks,
Mike

I've managed to get the VVT-i gearbox ratios:-
Final Drive 4.31:1
1st Gear Ratio 3.17:1
2nd Gear Ratio 1.9:1
3rd Gear Ratio 1.31:1
4th Gear Ratio 1.03:1
5th Gear Ratio 0.86:1
6th Gear Ratio 0.73:1
As opposed to the VVTL-i gear ratios:-
Final Drive 4.53:1
1st Gear Ratio 3.17:1
2nd Gear Ratio 2.05:1
3rd Gear Ratio 1.48:1
4th Gear Ratio 1.17:1
5th Gear Ratio 0.92:1
6th Gear Ratio 0.82:1
As you can see, the internals of these boxes are completly different.
I really need help with knowing what boxes went in which car. Can someone confirm all Celica VVT-i cars had the top set of ratios and that the Celica VVTL-i had the bottom set of ratios??
Thanks,
Mike

Problem solved, or not as it may be as the gearbox IS incorrect and it's another £500 labour to swap it over!
After much reading and phone calls, the Celica VVT-i 140 uses the C63 gearbox with the longer ratios, the Celica VVTL-i 190 uses the C64 gearbox with a completly different set of internals and ratios.
Thanks to Scarlet Arrow for pointing me in the right direction.
