Fitted recon engine and was wondering if anyone could shine some light on two problems? First is the throttle response, when the throttle is pushed there is a second before the engine revs up and a slight sucking of air as well?

The second question is the coolant hoses. I am a bit paranoid that the enginge is not getting properly cooled, as the head of the engine was getting too hot to touch the fans came on but the bottom hoses were still cool? I have changed out the thermostat and all the hoses seem to be on the correct connectors? Any help would be much appreciated.
