But even a hybrid or full electric car should have enough back up power by the 12v battery to last for at least up to 3-4 weeks. It is just so annoying to have unreliable 12v system and start up in most reliable car. With the op low use any car will suffer low 12v battery with the time and more often replacement but should be like every 2-4 years not 2-4 weeks. Most modern cars suffered these problems because of the energy draw while car is not in use and all that to power up connected services etc.

2020 Excel hybrid - 18 inch tyre size opinions

    There aren't two sizes on a 4.5 - only one - 225/60 R18, sitting on an 18 x 7J rim. That's the OEM fitment and the one to go for. (The 4.3 and 4.4 came with a 235/55 R18 on an 18 x 7.5J rim)

Two of the previous Toyotas had been Hybrids and they were fine, a CRV and an Auris.

    Taxing Your Turf

You really shouldn't have to worry about any of this but thats the generation we live in. Putting a Berberis hedge in will require pruning to make sure it doesn't grow outside the boundary. You can bet your life if one of the kids falls into it or pricks their fingers you will be sued or jailed for child cruelty.😭 Consider a fence if you can put one up. We have a similar problem, we live on a small private road at the end of a cul de sac and despite signs saying no through road on both sides at the entrance we still get people every day thinking that they can use this as a short cut. The problem is you can clearly see before you drive up our bit that a fence and trees prevent you from going anywhere. So they still continue to drive right up to the fence, and instead of reversing straight back they reverse onto our front garden adjacent to our garage drive. So we put some flower pots on the front to stop them and they have broken these four times. As a last resort my neighbours grandson works for a road traffic management company and has supplied us both with traffic cones which we now have stuck on the front. It has worked so far as they don't drive up anymore. I loose track of the times I have had a go at the drivers for breaking the pots.🤬

Then a Hybrid was the wrong car for you. I use three cars, two hybrid, I make sure they are all used on a regular basis, never had an issue with the batteries. Great to have a second car, but it needs to be used on a regular basis or the issue will occur again. Modern cars use much more background power from the battery while sitting and while driving.
  9. Sorry, can't help, I'm afraid. I'm not a Luddite but I have chosen not to use the app(s) or connected services (I'm not even sure which app - MyT or MyToyota - is the one to use). This is partly due to my previous experience with car manufacturers/importers. I had a VW Group 'dieselgate' car. Franchised dealers were installing software updates, without owners' consent, when cars were taken in for servicing. A significant number of owners had real problems after the update. Both driveability and reliability. Fortunately, I knew about this before my next service was due and avoided any problems by switching to a local indy. The bonus is that I now have a very good indy whom I trust. They now service hybrids so I am mulling... So I am reluctant to, in effect, give Toyota access to my car by enabling OTA updating. It works just fine and I think that I would rather keep it 'off grid'. Also partly because I don't see any real benefits to me in the connected tech. I only use the mapping as a back-up so I don't need the live traffic info and it doesn't matter to me if it is out of date. My car lives under a car port with a proper tiled roof and full height walls both sides, effectively a garage that is open at the front and back. So no snow or ice and only very rarely any condensation. I just don't think that using the app offers me any real benefits. If I run into problems and need to connect everything up then, so be it, I'll do it but for now it's fine as it is.
  10. Hi everyone, I need to replace my 4 tyres, and can see that there are two different recommended sizes for the 18 inch wheel, 225 60 18 and 235 55 18 Which ones do you prefer and why? Also would have been the size supplied by the manufacturer 4 years ago? We purchased it second hand, so not sure what it came with.

The Mazda 2 (not confusingly the Mazda 2 which is the same as you’ve just got shot of) is a cracking little car and should be more to your satisfaction. You are not alone, I know a couple of people that have lost patience with their Yaris and ditched it. I don’t blame you, I blame the dealer for not advising you sufficiently especially if you returned a very low mileage car at trade in. They can’t really go overboard on maintaining a battery because it’ll just put people off. Our friends at Toyota should maybe have a chat about that. It’s a shame because the car is more technologically advanced than just about anything else on the market but I do get it.

The whole point of having a second car in our case is that it will only be used occasionally. You shouldn't have to put a larger battery in, Toyota should do that as standard. Neither should you have to sit in the car in ready mode every few days, connect up to a solar charger or have a battery pack. We have had 4 Toyotas between us and up till the Yaris they have all been fantastic. I feel that the quality has gone down over the last few years which is a shame. Don't want to use the bus that's why we have two cars.

    My New Toy😄

Anything like that is always doable for anyone anal enough to want it looking OEM but be warned, it won’t be cheap and there might be other things and wiring loom compatibility issues. My advise is, plug your phone into the USB port.

    ? Faulty USB-C system on New 2024 C-HR

Just stuck one of these in with 60Gb music and 13000 tracks and works fine. Was a bit sluggish to begin with whilst indexing but all good now. Thanks @Geoffers47

    CarPlay with USB

Ok but if you use the iPhone USB port to connect it to multimedia system to use Car Play I don't think you can use it at the same time also for a storage device.

There is the problem, a car not being used. Not the car, how you use it. Hope the new car meets your needs.

    My New Toy😄

Just popped up to my Toyota dealer to get my service plan changed over from the Aygo X to my Yaris Cross. They had a brand new Yaris Cross in the showroom and about the only visual change I saw was the Infotainment screen AND a wireless charging pad (see photos), I wonder if this could fit in earlier Yaris Cross's ?? If you could get your hands on one. Also noticed that the tyres fitted where Falkens.
  19. Hi, Has anyone fitted an after-market alarm on their Aygo second-gen? And if so are there any recommendations as to who can do this around the South Yorkshire area; although I can travel out further if needed. Thanks.

    Camry 2005 vibrations

I recently changed the caliper on the driver side and it feels good, brakes good, doesn’t smell like burn and I don’t feel lost of power. I’ll check the engine thank you for your advice.

It's late now, could of maybe got away with putting a 45ah better quality battery in and ready mode every 3-4 days when not using the car.

    Taxing Your Turf

We have a primary school behind us - hence the ex-caretaker’s bungalow which is now a day nursery. We do have lots of cars in the road during start and finish of lessons for the day. Our front garden was once bordered by flowering plants adjacent to the pavement, but kids simply walked on them - even when with their disinterested parent(s). So I cleared the plants and replaced them with rockery stones, and let lobelia ramble over them. The kids, some as young as about 3 - even when parents watching - use the rocks as stepping stones. Now these rocks are loose laid and can rollover at any time. Twisted/broken ankle? - not my problem. This would be down to lack of parental care. Have considered planting a Berberis hedge - nice and spiky, but would have to ensure that it did not protrude outside my boundary line.

Limited Remote Climate Settings on App

Just deleted profile, uninstalled app, reinstalled app, logged on to app, added car, setup profile and connected to multimedia. all working but still limited controls as before 🤔. Unless anyone else has any bright ideas, or can confirm that this is all I should expect on an MY2 Excel, I will have a word with the dealer next time I'm in. Its not a major issue as I'm retired and don't get out of bed if its cold😂 What settings do you have available to you @SDR or anyone else with a UK MY24? Thanks
  25. I started with the two dial display, pretty much as it was delivered, but have settled with one dial, 'smart' appearance, with the dial showing the hybrid indicator as you have. I don't think that I ever look at an analogue speedo on cars that have a digital version. I would usually want the tacho displayed but I figured that there wasn't much point on a car that doesn't have any fixed gears. I agree about the map. Pressing 'OK' makes it slightly bigger but it still isn't much use. So I leave 'Settings' in the centre display because it requires less button presses to get to the things that I like to switch off or modify before driving! I have the adaptive cruise display on the right where you have the energy monitor. I generally leave the map showing on the large central screen but I have it set up so that I can switch to the energy monitor with one button press. I don't take much notice of it, because it doesn't actually change how I drive the car, but it amuses passengers!

    It had to go

A few weeks ago we got in my wife's Yaris to go somewhere and it wouldn’t start, the 12 volt battery didn’t have enough charge to power the hybrid system so we called out Toyota Assist. The AA arrived quickly and plugged a power pack into the connection and it started. The mechanic said that the hybrids need to be used on a regular basis to keep the 12 volt battery charged. As it was a second car it didn't get used very much at all. I bought a power pack to keep in the boot ready, it happened again after the car hadn’t been used for a couple of days and a couple more times after that, when we got back after a weeks holiday it was totally flat, I had to use the emergency key to open the door but of course I couldn’t open the boot to get the power pack so I had to climb over the front seat to reach the back seat and fold the seat down so that I could get it that way. Anyway, to cut a long story short, my wife had enough and we went to the Mazda dealer for a test drive in a petrol Mazda 2 and she ordered one. The Yaris isn’t a year old until the end of June and had only done 1,400. I have seen loads of complaints on the this forum about this problem so it’s a common issue, I wish I had looked into this issue before. Also the auto lights are just so annoying, they come on in bright sun if you go past the shadows of trees, then off, back on in shadow….ad infinitum! We picked up the Mazda on Monday and left the Yaris there, glad to see the back of it.
