Drivers who speed will be slowed down by EU car tech
FROSTYBALLS replied to jthspace's topic in General Club Discussions
All. Those with a new Type Approval from 6th July 2022 were required to have ISA. From 6th July 2024, all new vehicles built from this date will be required to have ISA. Most manufacturers would already comply with the 2024 requirement. The Club has had topics on this subject since 2021 - not just current topics. -

I'd bet a tenner on your 12v battery being done! Get it changed (and ignore what the dealer says if they tell you it's ok). -
Drivers who speed will be slowed down by EU car tech
Roy124 replied to jthspace's topic in General Club Discussions
@FROSTYBALLS agreed there is a number of topics already but I think thought this went rather further: CARS will beep, vibrate or slow down if drivers are speeding under new mandatory safety technology that comes into effect this summer. From July 6, new vehicles sold in the European Union and Northern Ireland will be fitted with intelligent speed assistance (ISA) to prevent accidents. Although the UK has opted out, meaning it will not be a requirement on British roads, the technology will still be installed in most cars, and drivers can choose to switch it off on a daily basis. If the article, as highlighted, is true the cars will slow down unless the driver disables this every day. Is this part true? Apart from being an unnecessary PITA for the majority of UK drivers it will be useful for we who travel to Europe. The other question is: From July 6, new vehicles sold in the European Union and Northern Ireland will be fitted with intelligent speed assistance (ISA) to prevent accidents. Does this mean all new vehicles or only those with a post July 2022 type-approval? I note that the link quoted by @MV1216 actually says: The European Union agreed in 2019 to make an overridable version of ISA, along with a number of other vehicle safety measures, mandatory on new models of car sold in the EU from 2022. ls this just an example selective sensational media reporting? -
It seems to vary by model. All Toyotas I've driven which had non-radar CC adjusted in 1 mph increments and 5 mph increments if the stalk/button was held for more than a second or so. However, most Toyotas and Lexus I've driven with Adaptive (Radar) CC (including Lexus RX and LX models I briefly drove 15 or so years ago, along with a 4th Gen Prius, 5th Gen RAV4 HEV and my present Highlander Hybrid) incremented in 5 mph. I have seen reports of one or two other models using 1 mph increments, like Mike's RAV4 PHEV and, I think, someone else's recent Yaris. Also, a CH-R Hybrid I was lent by my dealer a while back also adjusted in 1 mph increments. For some reason, those Adaptive CC cars that work in 5 mph increments can be put into old fashioned non-radar mode by holding the button for a few seconds when switching CC on, and AFAIK in all cases that will adjust in 1 mph increments (5 if stalk/button held). I don't know how Toyota make such decisions, but I prefer 1 mph increments, and when others have commented I've yet to see the opposite opinion expressed (which, I suppose, may change now!).

Probably be added when they refresh the new model in 2-3 years time. Also maybe they don’t think it’s cold enough in U.K. to warrant it 🤣

Not completely flat, true, but at a low voltage it is still damaged and giving you a message. Using a charger might repair the battery and stave off failure.

2016 Yaris Hybrid - LCD display strange "Loading Bar"
Bart_M posted a topic in Yaris & Yaris Cross Club
Hi All, Been having a problem with 2016 Yaris Hybrid lately. Everything started as a suspected flat battery in key fob as the car wouldn't recognize any of the fobs (we have 2) We couldn't open the doors - only way was with metal key. Then once in the car, system would not recognize the fob(s) (only one present in a car at any given point). Tried starting the engine with fob over start button and after few attempts wife was able to start the engine. To be on the safe side - batteries in both fobs replaced with exact same type. Next day; unable to open the door again, at least that's what we thought as looking at the door mirrors they did not move - we could hear the lock mechanism going on and off quickly but mirrors did not open. Surprisingly when I pulled the handle - the doors were opened. Once again car would not recognize the fob - all I had was a green flashing light of the key on the dashboard. I waited like 20s - nothing! It would not recognize the fob over the start button neither. Then all of the sudden I hear strange clicking noise behind the MAP display/ glove box area and on the MAP LCD display I get the loading bar that goes from left to right for 30s - then I get to see AUDIO OFF on that display and all of the sudden engine can be started as at that point system recognizes my fob.... It happens every few days - car is currently at the dealership workshop in Reading where apparently nothing obvious was identified. They recommending keeping it over night to test the battery but I am not sure if this is the real cause. The issue describe above happens after long drive. city drive after night and even 20 minutes after longish drive s no real common factor. In the nutshell: car often doesn't recognize the fobs, Strange system loading screen on MAP LCD display after few seconds of sitting in the car while it doesn't recognizes the fob Anyone else had similar issue? What could be the potential cause? One picture shows that loading bar and the other shows the dash after break and start button are pressed (only green flashing key light is displayed - sorry for quality, pics taken off the video clip sent to Toyota) Can you point me in the right direction please? Thanks -
What did the change during the service? Oil + Filter ( which oil grade did they put ? ) surely Air filter? Check tyre pressure because I've noted they've the habit to over inflate them. It reduces a bit power consumption but car looses a bit of stability. Have you succesfully passed the Hybrid Check ?

Thanks for that. Have had a word with them. They were surprised they were not included. In fact I spoke to the manager, and they have complained to Toyota, as they have lost 10 potential sales due to this omission. So over 3 million in lost sales.

I may be wrong but I believe that the engine in the 1.5 Yaris is the same engine as in the 2.0LCorolla but just reduced to 3 cylinders. In the Yaris section of this forum I don't recall any Yaris owners reporting failed injectors. Strange. -

New CHR no heated steering wheel on any CHR in UK
FROSTYBALLS replied to Trev S's topic in C-HR Club
Down to each importer to decide what spec it wants to sell in their market. So presumably Toyota GB have decided not to include a heated steering wheel in the C-HR specs for the UK. -
I might have misread something, but are other people stuck with CC in 5mph increments only? Mine can be operated/set in 1mph increments and to the bets of my knowledge always has been...? It's possible I could have altered some settings back when first got the car, but I can't recall now, but it's is definitely possible for for a 2022 PHEV Rav.

Hi Trevor,It looks like from online that the heated steering wheel, previously offered on the pre-2023 Excel model, is no longer included in the standard or optional features for the 2024 UK range. This omission could be due to various reasons, like cost cutting measures, prioritising other features, or market research suggesting lower demand in the UK.You can check the official Toyota UK website's specifications for the 2024 C-HR Excel. Contact a Toyota dealership directly and ask about the heated steering wheel's absence.Unfortunately, since it's not an officially supported feature, modifications to enable a heated steering wheel aren't recommended. This could affect your car's warranty etc.Hope this helps.

After registering with MyToyota you need to verify ownership with the reference number from the new V5, which you can't do until the new copy arrives in the post. But, you can go to / call your local dealer, or any Toyota dealer, and they can retrieve the service info for you. They normally see a bit more than what is visible through MyToyota. Congratulations. Glad you found a good car that he's happy with. -
Yeah.....I've always thought the cable supplied bulky. Like all things Toyota, robust. Tight coiling to keep compact can be a pain. Increased frequency of charging doesn't help. A task I wouldn't want to tackle in a wedding suit on a wet day. A minor downside for RAV PHEV's IMO. Barry Wright, Lancashire.

No worries.....and it is an Prius Alpha (called the Prius plus in UK), not the much smaller Aqua that was never released under a different name in the UK 🙂

Hi, have a brand new 2024 CHR Excel but has no heated steering wheel. However if you look at the European spec (see photo) it does. Has Toyota UK been left out in the cold?? Why when it was on the older pre 2023 model Excel. I noticed that this is ALL the UK range including the gold special. I suspect the steering wheel placed in the car has the electric elements, but no wiring. Anyone any ideas why???

Thank you for the reply, I will try checking these i've read that somewhere around 13-14 ohms is a good resistance? and by checking the power wires and ground wires - negative to the connector, positive to the battery? -

Hi, I have a brake leak on the back left coming from the brake load sensing valve. I can't seem to find anybody with one, or any aftermarket ones. I know they have been discontinued but wondered if anyone had a work around or knew of a supplier? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Just to clarify, my battery wasn't totally flat as the dash lights were coming on and I opened the car with no problem. When I pressed start it would not go into ready mode and I got a clicking noise that sounded like a solenoid trying to switch. totally understand peoples problems reference leaving the car in ready mode in car parks etc. but would point out that this appears to be the recommended method to charge this battery by Toyota. This issue does just happen out of the blue as I hadn't changed any of my driving/ distance/ journeys at all. It will be interesting to see what happens in coming weeks but whatever I am now prepared and won't be stuck anywhere. Terry
