The problem with having your keys stolen is that they can come back at any time and take your car off the driveway without you knowing.

The security system used is VERY secure, the immobiliser code is stored in the engine ECU, and the car knows what keys are registered to it

There are only two routes to go

1: replace the lock set, ECU etc, very expensive

2: There are locksmiths out there with new technology to be able to delete the codes from your ECU and re-programme a new key to it. As hard as it is for me to say, but your dealer doesnt have the equipment to do this

Even option 2 is likely to cost you circa £300

Worth reporting this to the insurers? I'm sure they'd rather pay for a new keyset than a new car!

Alternatively, try the former keepers to try and trace one of the other keys. If they turn up trumps I think the stolen key can be deactivated.

Search this page for V888 to get the right DVLA form for obtaining a full list of former keepers.

on the old avensis mrk 1 and mark 2

you could switch off the imoboliser.

i'l try and find out if thats possible on the new avensis.

Well

I have emailed a toyota eng, waiting for a reply back

But if you have replaced the correct parts then the car should be fine,

The only thing that could stop starting is the immobilser, which on the older avensis used to get the keycode from the ecm.
