Vvti Burning Oil?

While reading car reviews on honestjohn.co.uk, I found this (referring to Corolla VVTi engines from 2002 to 2007 models, but presumably covers all VVTi engines)............

"Good: Comfortable, well equipped and dependable. Huge range of body styles and refined, economical engines. Rated highly by owners.

Bad: Not the most accomplished ride. VVT-i engines can suffer bore liner problem and guzzle oil after 40k miles."

It goes on to say....

"1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre VVT-i engines can start to use up to a litre of oil every 600 miles after 40,000 miles due to a bore liner problem. If under 5 years old and Toyota maintained, Toyota will usually replace FOC."

I haven't read anything like that on any other review sites, and haven't seen any complaints about it on here! I have a 2006 Corolla 1600 VVTi which will have 40k miles on it within the next 18 months or so. Should I be concerned?? Might be worth keeping up the Toyota service stamps to make a warranty claim!
