New Avensis 1.8. Tow Car ?

Does anyone have any experience with the new Avensis as a towing vehicle ?, particularly 1.8 manual. I occasionally need to tow a 8 ft box trailer with a fair bit of weight in (not sure how heavy)

I'm sure it would cope but I think you would be better off with the diesel as the new VVT-i engines dont have much power low down the rev range like the earlier ones did (like the 3S-FE did), so I would opt for the diesel or biggest petrol you can get if you plan on towing otherwise it's not really being kind to a relatively small engine.
