can someone explain to me... how to use the voice activation on the radio/cd player on my 2.2 Avensis TSPIRIT

is it linked to the sat nav....or is it available at all times..

I've tried a few commands and nought is happening

I recall some years ago i had an avensis with the button on the steering wheel, however i do recall it was not activated on the model i had, it did my head in for weeks.
