Do I Need New Engine?

Hi guys.

My sister has a pasaeo 93 model. From researhc its a 1.5L el44 motor? Its a 4 sp auto (3sp + o/drive?).

Anyway, problem was same as my 300zxTT. White smoke clouds the street on start up, after driving for about 10 mins the smoke settles. Anyway, piston ring is the culprit. Mechanic said 1500$-2500$ to find and replace motor. I said i can buy a whole pasaeo for that.

Anyway, where can i find a replacement motor? Or a different motor to fit in here? What motor should i be searching around for? And is it a day job to swap the small motors out/in?

Can you not do it yourself? It's cut out labour costs...

Where are you? You mentioned the prices in dollars and not in £. If you are in Europe,buy a damaged Paseo and use the motor from that one. If you have a look at www.mobile.de you can find damaged cars there. The easiest way is to use the same model of engine.
