Avensis D4D 2004 T Spirit Lack Of Power, Engine Management, Vsc, Trc L

hello there. i wondering if anyone can help me. I have a toyota avensis d4d 2004 t spirit.

I have the engine management light on, the vsc light on and the trc light on. The car is in limp mode as it does not accelerate over 40mph.

I have had the RAC out and the fault codes they have found were P0488 which refers to egr position throttle range and also a code which refers to the glow plug circuit. I have been to a mechanic and he has changed the egr valve and changed the glow plugs. He also resetted the codes and turned the lights off. But once he started driving the car, all the lights have come back on and now the computer is only showing codes P0488. There is no code for the glow plug circuit now. The mechanic also cleaned the egr valve, he cleaned the manifold and intake shutter also.

The car is still in limp mode and has a lack of power. The engine management light, TRC and VSC are still on. There are no other signs of problems with the car. There is no smoke coming out of the exhaust nor is there any leaks from the pipes or engine. The only code showing on the computer is P0488.

Can anyone tell me if they have had a similar problem with the d4d avensis 2004? I would like to take it to Toyota but i am worried they may just diagnose the EGR valve again, but i have already fitted a new one so i dont think that is the problem. Any ideas? The mechanic i have uses a handheld device to diagnose the problem on the car. The RAC have also been out and they got the same fault code which is P0488. Anyone had a similar experience?

Hello,

My avensis 2008 TR gave me trouble within the last week, with lack of power and puff of black smoke. management light on, vsc light and trc lights all on. Took her to toyota dealer and they said she needs a new egr valve and manifold cleaned out 32,000 miles on the clock. They cleaned egr valve until they can fit her in next week. that made a big difference as she drove home with full power. All work covered under warranty. starting to wonder about the D4D engine design.

hi all

I have a T Spirit 54 plate and had similar problems, I cleaned the EGR valve and that cured the bad acceleration between 2000 revs and 2800. But I still get the occasionall problem with the VSC and TRC and engine management light coming on then I get no acceleration. Turning the ignition off and back on cures it. It happens when using low revs mainly parking. Annoying !!!.

After a few starts all the lights go out and back to normal until the next time !!!!

you need to get it plugged in and the engine code read, you can buy your self a cheap reader of eBay which will come to use in the future I have the d900 scanner which works on my 2004 avensis- does not work on renaults

2 of 3 faults fixed

so now only left with the p0488

is this not the problem rectified with an ecu update?
