Uneven Tyre Wear

Hi

Just removed the real wheel on my 2004 avensis tourer to find that the inside of the tyre is completely worn but the outside to the middle has about 4mm of tread, a qhick inspection of the other side shows excessive wear on the inside too but not so bad, any ideas what will have caused this as it has not happened on any previous set of tyres?

thanks

Bryan, it sound to me that the wheels want tracking. I would take it to have all 4 wheels done on a computerised system if possible.

Trev..

Hello, it is not well known but if during your journey you have to navigate those ridiculous "traffic calming" black square "pyramids" in the middle of your side of the road, you really need to drive drive over them with one wheel on top. If you straddle them centrally this will cause the exact symptoms you describe, I know this, because it was pointed out to me in an IAM local group bulletin with photographic evidence.

Wheel alignment/camber. I would get it checked on one of the bigger all wheel allignment machines used in some garages. As mentioned above, the square speed bump thingys can cause problems with tyre tread edges. Do you go many on regular occasions?? Though I would expect some wear on the fronts as well if due to speed bumps.
