Strange Smell Coming From Alternator

My carina e cd had a strange smell coming in the car today, looked in the bonnet and it seemed to be coming from the alternator, do you think its on its way out, temp was normal, no smoke, just a smell, belt seemed OK

If the smell was like burned electrical things it is a sign that it is not healthy anymore. But how about the belt that drive the alternator. Is it ok? Belt might also produce a smell if they are being worn in a faulty way.
