Headlight Bulb Frustration

You've probably heard it all before, what bulbs fit etc etc....

I ordered a set of HB3 and HB4 headlight bulbs, arrived, went to fit and the connectors are completely different. I only tested dipped beam but it would seem that neither bulb fits.

Having looked online some more I am truely baffled. Some sites say H11 are fogs, some say H11 are dipped beam, and so on...

Is anyone able to shed some light on this (see what I did there ;) ) and are for example, HB3 and 9005 different types of bulbs or just different ways of describing the same bulb?

501 for side lights

h11 for fog and dipped.

These are correct info.

HB4 are full beam.

H11 (as mentioned) are main beam.

Unless you have bought a HID kit, you are wasting your time upgrading them.

I wouldnt say that.

I swapped my original bulbs with a set of PolarG 5000k which are from Japan, the difference is stark and much improved.

Strange, My 07 1.6 Manual says:

Fogs HB3

Mains HB3

Dipped H11.

I have just bought some Osram Nughtbreaker plus H11's for the dipped and sincerely hope they fit.

Can you tell us if you see any improvement? Are they better? Can you post some pictures?

Here is my Auris with standard bulbs.

I've had Osram Nightbreaker +90% fitted to my Auris for the last 14 months. I found a noticeable improvement over the standard bulbs - greater range and whiter, brighter light output.

Today I changed the passenger side bulb for an Osram NightBreaker Plus and took it for a drive a little earlier this evening.

I wanted to compare the fitted Philips H11 low beam with the Nightbreaker.

And I must say there is a significant difference in the colour and brightness of the light output. The beam is actually aimed further forward of the car without blinding anyone. I guess this is because there is more light to travel further.

Very pleased and worth the cost.

Will change the driver's side tomorrow.

Tavy, I don't think there is a way to photograph the headlights to show the difference unless you change only one bulb and then compare the effect by blanking each of them in turn on a straight and level road that is deviod of vehicles.
