Stone Chipped Windscreen :-(

Am I right in thinking that you buy DIY resin injection kits? If so, are they any good?

Was driving home yesterday and a stone flew up and made a wee chip in the windscreen

Thanks

I have the same problem!

Had a quick scan round the net. It seems that professional repairs cost from around £30 upwards. Trade repair kits are available from http://www.screencare.co.uk but they cost £350 - however they have an interesting video to download which shows how its done.

I found a diy kit at Halfords http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_detail...5&type=0&cat=61 for £24. They say it repairs to MOT standards.

I would be interested to know if anyone has used one of these kits. Or maybe I should just have it done professionally. Must check my insurance to see if I can claim for it.

With this choice I would go professional for the extra £6. Why take the risk of an amateur job?

I have a <I thought I could get past the swearing filter - what a sad muppet I am eh?>ing huge chip just behind my rear view...

It's so big I think it's definitely best left to the pro's though.

Read your insurance closely. Most cover chip repair Free, without it being considerred a claim. Toyota Insurance paid for mine, autoglass did the work, no excess, no loss of no claim (nor used up any free counters). They prefer to do this, since if the screen goes-from the chip, it costs them a boat load
