Brake Noise

I have a 2002 Solara (my first Toyota). It makes a loud noise that sounds like something rolling around in the trunk when I first start off and apply brakes for first time. I have had in to two different dealers and they say the brakes are fine that it is normal to make this noise. They say a lot of Toyotas make the noise and it comes from the brake pads shifting themselves after changing gears from reverse to forward, etc. The car only has 12,000 miles on it and has already had a new Battery and both rear struts replaced. Has anyone else had or heard of similar problems?

My hiace is an auto, i have nothing out of the ordinary when I apply the brakes, however to prove this I shall do a quick test in the car park this morning to replicate what they are saying, but two garages saying the same thing. Is the noise sustained or just a quick thump?

Car makes one or two "thump" or "clunk" noise when you first hit brakes. Does not always do it but is getting consistently more. Usually does when car sits overnight but is starting to do it when has just sat for short times too. Thanks
