Engine Warning Light Comes On

guys

i have a 1993 1600cc 4afe engined carina

the engine warning light came on after driving 6 or 7 miles

when i arrived at my destination i switched off the engine and re started it the light didnt come on

it happened again later in the day

when the warning lights on she drives normaly

and the 3rd time i drove her it didnt

is this anything to worry about

what should i do

i fitted a new coil toyota fuel pump and leads last year

and she runs great with 215000 miles on her

I am not totally sure what the Engine warning light does on these cars to be honest. Have you done simple things such as checked the oil checked water level and things like that?

hi sammy i had the same thing on my k reg 1.6 gli i would say at best it is the sensor on the exhust it not a majer problem i never noticed a lot of diferince in performance but i think it helps to tell the car how to tune its self sort of if that make any sence

Hi I had this on my Carina, its the lambda sensor or 02 sensor gone faulty, you can see it screwed into the exaust manifold it looks like a spark plug with 4 wires comming out, there pretty costly (3-400 euro) but i got a perfect match of eBay for around 100 + shipping, the car will still run normal enough but it uses more petrol and eventually it could ruin the cat if not changed, hope this is of use...
