Avensis D4D Clicking Sound

Well folks

Have a 2.0 D4D Avensis 08

I've recently noticed then when I am accelerating in from about 4th up to 6th and the revs are between 1800RPM and 2000RPM that there is a sort of clicking noise coming from her. Mainly noticeable if the window is down but can also be heard when the cabin is sealed.

It's got 53k on the clock.

Pretty vague info but any ideas what it could be ?

i wonder if the pin in the drive shaft is moving around.

does it do the clicking if the car is neuteral and you rev it ?

Its when she is in gear from about 4th up to 6th between 1800 and 2000 and when the foot is more or less to the floor..

Are you sure it isn't a rattle sound? If so this happens about the 1800-2000 mark and quite normal for the D4-D engine.

You are probably hearing it at those gears, because it's more quieter then, when pushed hard. There is a pretty good chance that the noise is there in all the gears. Sometimes the air filter rattles, or may be this is the sign of the dual mass flyweel going :( (it's like the song of crickets). Check it on a hill, but without accelerating. Just maintain speed so that it would be on 4-th or 5-th gear, around 1800-2000rpm, or a little acceleration, but just a little.

Ooooooooooo Dear !

TBH, It sounds far from normal or like a wee rattle. This isnt normal engine noise but an addition so to speak.

Any way of testing the DMF going ?

What do you mean by "DMF"?

Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF)

Mine has a ticking when cold and when I accelerate, but it is a 1.8 petrol, I am beginning to think it is the AC pump or a tappet because they are not hydraulic they are ajustable

Hello buddy . When my dmf was in the early stages of failure i noticed a rattling coming from the flywheel on tick over . It also developed a noise when accelerating in a high gear , sounded like a ford escort with a k&n filter fitted .
