Rattle/wheel Wobble While Moving Off From Cold By Clutch

When I start the Yaris while its been sitting for over 8 hours, engine cool, and move off using clutch only, the wheel at the passenger side seems to rattle/wobble.

But when the car has warmed up and move off using clutch only, it doesnt happen.

Anyone know what it is?

Thanks!

Are you sure it's the wheel that's wobbling and that it's not 'clutch judder'?

Clutch judder occurs when there's contamination (oil, condensation etc) on the friction plate and soon wears off when the surfaces have been used and warmed up a little.(Unless of course if the contamination is severe)

As a precaution I would first check to see if the wheels are securely fastened.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hi stantheman

Thanks for your reply

It seems to happen more in cold days aswell, and when i rev a little, it seems fine.

I have heard that Yaris' have had many complaints of clutch judder from owners. This might be the case then.

The Yaris is due for a MOT & Service very soon, I'll ask the mechanic about it by then.

Pulling away just using the clutch? You will get judder! The gas pedal needs to be used as well.

Regards.

Could be condensation : causing slight rust and snatching of flywheel/plate interface.

Evaporates when engine is warm..

Is your car garaged or left outside at night? And if outside, in a damp place.. cos that would make it worse...
