whether these are now fitted to most models ?

You see I was browsing the newstand in Morrisons and looking at this months "Car Mechanics" which has an article on the dreaded DMF's, and it goes on to make the statement that these are now fitted to "all" modern cars, both petrol and diesel apart from the very smallest engine sizes.

Anyone know how true that is ? Do the petrol Auris's for example have these fitted ?

No idea if DMF is fitted to all new cars! But I suspect that they will be... My Polo 1.4 TDi has a SMF! But that was on the 2003 year build. I know that the 1.9TDi has a DMF on the same year!.... Blooly expensive when they go t!ts up!:nerd::driving:

I think I know what you mean by an SMF or a DMF.

So then what difference does having a dual mass flywheel supposed to make?

A smoother take up of power from the engine to gearbox to the drive wheels :driving:

Dual Mass FLywheels are only used on the bigger diesel engines, usually 20l and up.

Some cars, German mainly, are known to be a source of problems but it also is very driver dependent, just like a clutch.

Abuse the car and it will bite back with big bills.

DMF are NOT fitted to petrol engines- they dont develop the torque low down.

for a lot more info go to the HonestJohn website and there is a LOT of info on DMF, DPF and other f'ssss

Thanks Sandy... I'd never heard of DMF's on petrol either (until I read that article).
