1.4 Vvti Engine Leak

hello all

Ive a 2002 1.4 and ive recently noticed a oil leak down the back of the engine. Standing in front of the car its at the left hand rear corner. There appears to be a blanking plate with 2 10mm nuts holding it in place, it looks as though its leaking from that or else the head gasket.

Can i take this plate off and renew the gasket? whats your thoughts on this?

Any advice greatly appreciated.
