Which Obd Reader Do I Need?

Hi, Im new to the club and looking for a little help. I have a 55 plate corolla petrol and the engine management light has just come on. As I am a little strapped for cash at the minute, I was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy my own obd reader rather than take it to the garage. Anyone know which one I need or which is good value for money?

AFAIK, any ELM327 based tool will work. You don't need a bluetooth version, just go for a USB one and take it from there. These can be found for less than 10$ on eBay
