Antenna Does Not Open Up

Can someone suggest the reasons for the Antenna not opening up. How does the mechanism operate? Is it automatic when tuner is put on? The cassette tape/tuner seems to be an aftermarket one. Do they have an extra cable which drive the antenna? Thanks.

not certain but i'm assuming that it has an auto antenna. the head units run a "remote/antenna" wire for the auto aerials. get someone to turn the stereo on and listen close to the aerial. if u can hear the motor running then i would unscrew the collar and pull the aerial out by hand. its possible that some of the teeth on the flexible drive have sheared off (this is what pushes the aerial up, just a plastic cable with teeth on one side). replacement masts are available so u prob wont need to purchase the whole unit.
