Avensis Tyres

Hi

I am interested in the 215/55ZR17 94W Falken ZIEX ZE912 tyres. My current tyres size is 215/55R17 94W - can anyone please tell me what the 'Z' means in the tyre size of the Falkens?

Also, I notice that quite a lot of tyres in the size required have the Z.

If I don't go the the Falken can anyone recommend a decent mid price tyre.

it's the speed rating, "Z" is upto 149mph.

215/55ZR17 94W

94 -- means 650 kg load max for wheel;

W -- means speed limit as up to 270 km/h

as to Z symbol -- it looks a clear decoding might only be founds belong to the Brand.

regards

ZR is the old speed rating (R means radial) system which some manufacturers still use along with the new single letter rating after the numerical load rating.

I currently have Bridgestone Turanza ER300 (OE fitting) but also recently test drove the Avensis Tourer on Goodyear Excellence and they were much quieter. Both are similarly priced and gave good grip and feel under normal driving.

As ever with tyres shop around for the best deals, get some quotes on the phone and then try your local one to see if they will price match which can often be less hastle than dealing with online deals or having to drive some distance.

I considered those Falkens but after some research went for the Kumho Ecsta LE Sport 215/50/17 Y (rated at 186 mph) I find them very good in the wet and dry, they are quiet too, the wear rating and grip rating is as good as any top brand. I paid £340 fitted and balanced from a place in Macclesfield Cheshire so I saved a lot of money over buying Goodyears or Michelin which would have cost almost twice as much. I realise that tyre choice is always issue on car forums with different views out there, I don't think you will have any problems with the Falkens as they do have some great reviews.

Regards Pete.

I also have Kumho ecsta le sport tyres and find them very good. Need to find a tyre fitter that won't damage my alloys though - but that's another issue.

Yes David youre spot on, I bought my tyres with a 100% guarantee that my brand new alloys wouldn't be damaged, they let me watch whilst they were being fitted and balanced and all was fine but sometimes removing the old ones can do more damage than fitting them. I'm selling my old 5 spoke 17" T- Spirit alloys/tyres soon if anyone is interested, they will only fit the 2.2 d4d though.

Hi All

My prob with the kumho ecsta le sport tyres - is that they dont make them in my size. What are the KU31's like?

Kumho KU31 great tyre . Really good handling on dry surfaces, bit noisy. On wet you have to take care. I have a set of Lassa Phenoma all round and for me they are excellent.
