We should be really happy though as Toyota Fans. What I mean is, I lived in Japan for a while and of all the companies, Nissan has the following car names

Sunny (Yeah right!)

Gloria

Cedric

I think the worst name Toyota came up with was for the Japanese market Paseo (Cynos) which I think means "to be the centre of attention"

I like it though. I owned the two different models of Paseo/Cynos and rebadged them as Cynos, even though over here they were badged as Paseo.

i live in indonesia and my car is toyota corona 1991 2000cc twincam, chassis type ST 171, engine 3S...i dont know. i don't know the other name for this type in other country, cause i am having difficulties finding perfomance parts for this type outside my country. could someone help me? thanks

You are right mythology would provide some great names - and TVR have nicked a few good ones already - Cerbera (as you pointed out), Griffin, Chimaera.........

You can't put a car into a market if the model name is already taken by another manufacturer eg: GM's Corsa

When GM sold the corsa in Japan, yes they did sell thousands of them, it had to

be called the Opel Vita. It also appeared as a 3 box saloon and was left hand

drive whereas the 3 dr and 5 dr appeared as Right hand drive.

Camry Prominent - Basically same as the lexus ES300/windom with different lights

Conquest - same as 1987-1992 Corolla sold in South Africa/Australia

Tazz - Yet again same as 1987 -1992 Corolla but with cosmetic difference to orignal to bring it more update looks & still sold/made in South Africa as new!

Isis Platana - new MPV just out in japan

Corolla Altis - Same styling as the American Corolla but sold in Asia & made in RHD & LHD

Aygo - in conjunction with citroen/ peugeot??

Scion is sold as the Bb in Japan. Same car

I did see a brochure for sale on eBay on the Tazz for 2004

Also popping up on eBay was badges for the Altis. The Altis is also sold

in Japan as a Daihatsu Altis which is a Camry!

Cynos is also Greek for Dog ! ( sorry ! ) :P

Apparently the name Sera is sourced in France, meaning ' Will be ' ( as in Que Sera Sera ).

Peugeot have got the naming thing sussed though........they have got their system registered so they are the only car company that can release a model with a 3 digit number as it's name, with the second digit a Zero - eg 205 etc.

Porsche 911 was originally going to be called the 901 till the legal breach was pointed out to them

Japanese name Corona = Carina in UK, don't know what it call in other country

2000cc DOHC 3S engine, will be the same as MR2 and Celica engine,

u can try to get perfomance parts for those engine.
