Central Locking And Alarm Help

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help with a problem that occured today.

The car:

Toyota Avensis; 2.0 litre; auto; estate; 53 plate (2003).

The problem:

Tried unlocking the car with the Unlock button on the key. Car didn't unlock so I used the key in the door lock and opened the car. This caused the alarm to go off. However, I was still able to start the engine. The alarm continued to sound with the engine on (horn, alarm siren and lights flashing). With the engine on the alarm eventually stopped. I can now lock and unlock the car using the key in the door lock (i.e. mechnically), but not use the remote. The light on the remote lights up. I have also tried the spare key, which also doesn't work. I am able to start the car with both key with integrated central locking and also the grey key that has no buttons on it.

Anyone no the likely cause and or fix?

Hope the above makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

99% of the time this is down to the Battery in the keys so I would try that first, but get decent batteries or maybe let the Toyota dealer do it for you as their batteries do last a while and any hiccups changing the Battery is down to them, although it's not that difficult a job to do.

Pete.

I had exact same thing happen this morning at 7 am

Not good having alarm go off at that time.

This has happened on a couple of cold mornings but after i drive it its good all day

Im going to change the batteries anyway but dont think its them as the lights and solenoid were still working for the lock function

Drivers door solenoid sticking in the cold is my thoughts?( maybey this has to open to trigger the rest of the locks)

Maybey a linkage needing a grease?

Ill see if fault persists before pulling the door card off.

Thanks for the replies. Took it to a garage and it turns out it was just the Battery in the key. Battery replaced and reprogrammed and it's all working fine again.

Cheers.
